So how is the rifle shooting now ? Would you chamber the same cartridge again ?

Barrel is shooting fine...I have 150 rounds down it now.

This is my 2nd PRC, and would do another in a heartbeat if needed.

Easy to do too, as I have my own reamer.......

What kind of bbl life do you expect ? Would you prefer this cartridge over the 6.5x284 ? I've been looking at a Sauer 100 Fieldshoot in this caliber. I imagine after the shot show a few gun makers will announce chamberrings

Lotsa variables to barrel life, but my 1st PRC had 500 rounds down the tube when I sold it, and the throat still looked great. H-1000 is the key. Step on the gas with 4831 or R-26 in either cartridge will come at the expense of barrel life. I have never ran H-1000 in a 6.5-284, so I don't have a direct comparison, as I've always have shot H-4831 in mine.

I'm still a 6.5-284 fan. and would hate to have to choose. Currently my 6.5-284 is set up as a LR gun, while the PRC is a carry gun, so the the gun choice boils down to platform not cartridge.

I could certainly sell the LR gun and be well covered with the PRC for both endeavors, but what fun would that be........

One more test, just for the hell-of-it.......

Went out my closer spot, and shot 3 shot groups at 100-200-300-400.

Groups size was affected mostly due to the right to left wind & mirage.

100 - 3/4" (clean/cold)

200 - 1 1/4" (1st 2 touching)

300 - 1 1/2" (2 into 5/8")

400 - 3 1/4" (5 shot group- 2 leaked left missing wind pickup)

I had previously mounted the 2.5-10x42 Nightforce in lapped Seekins rings, and remover that scope to replace it with the 5.5-22 NF for load work. Decide it was a good time to switch them out and get the 10X sighted in.

Only took a couple minutes for that, then had to move the target back to 50. Quick peek down the bore to get it bore sighted, one shot at 50, dial the scope, move to 100, and shoot 3. Wow.......450" group, 3 quarters of an inch high.

Moved the target to 200......1 5/8"

Moved it to 300......2 1/2"

Moved to 400......perfect triangle at 2 5/8"....a touch high.

So I moved the scope two clicks down, and shot again......

First 2 shots dead center an inch apart, but lost the third 4" to the left again.....oh well......done and zeroed.

Set the zero stop and called it a day.

Last time out was play day.....a few jugs spread out from 225 to a bit over 600

[Linked Image]

First up, I shot four of them from the bench to confirm zeroes. Piece-o-cake, went 4 for 4 including the last one at 606.

Next up was to shoot off my lighter weight Bog Pod with my back rested against the bench, as I forgot my stadium seat I generally use for coyote hunting. 225 and 350 were 1st round hits, then struggled beyond that, as it's just not steady enough. I've been tempted to get a hog saddle set up with a heavy duty tripod, but I don't want the extra weight to pack around when hunting.

Lastly, shooting prone off the bipod, but without a rear bag. Finished off the remaining jugs, including another 1st round hit at 603.

Loaded everything in the truck, picked up my trash, that some bozos are worried about) and called it a day.

My Havak PH1 6.5 PRC shipped today!

Brass is no where to be found...

Has anyone tried N560 or N565 in the 6.5PRC?
