But will a .223 sing the blues and mend a broken heart? Will it cure male-pattern baldness? Will I be welcomed into a mid-town Manhattan bar with one slung over my shoulder? How about rats in the barn?

These posts always crack me up when the “you’ll wish for a bigger gun” or “ you can’t take a quartering shot with a 223” guys pipe up.
With a 53gr TSX or even a plain old 55gr Hornady sp or Nosler ballistic tip you can break BOTH shoulders on deer.
I’d be completely comfortable taking any shot I’d normally take on any deer with a 223 and a decent bullet.
This one got both shoulders broken with a 53 gr. TSX..and he's about as big as they get. He stopped when the bullet landed... Wife made a good behind the shoulder shot with a .30-06 and he was motoring fast towards a knife edge ridge I did NOT want him to get over, so I stopped him.....
In fairness, they do shoot a lot of deer at night with 223s here. Controlled hunts in local parks using LEO sniper teams. They occasionally get volunteers from local hunt groups to gut deer and load in refrigerator trucks. Pretty impressive how many deer can come out of these parks.
no ideal ? WTF ? about sharpshooters ? .that`s almost funny how little you boys know what does goes on ,have never even heard of these sharpshooters that these cities hire with DNR permits to lower the deer population ? golf course`s do it too with a DNR permit ? so don`t get smart with me when you have no ideal what goes on !
This is true.
I met up with one of my cousins years ago at a reunion. He is a Cincinnati cop and he told me about all the fun he was having with the city's silenced M16s doing night culls in the parks. I begged him to get me in on it, I'd even supply my own ammo & gun. But it was only open to paid cops "for liability reasons".
The city discontinued that and now have a lottery or something for bowhunters to do the culling. Here's an article about it. Even mentions the old LE culling program. LOL, it even calls those guys "sharpshooters" - https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2017/05/31/350593001/350593001/
My experience is that the .22s only work if you are a teenage girl.
64 nosler.
That is what convinced me. The farmer whose land I hunt on had a teenage daughter with a single shot Rossi .223, and the 7th deer she killed with it was a 140" north MO brute. I figured I'm at least as good a shot/hunter as she is with her 55 grain Winchester factory loads. I prefer 65 grain Sierra's or 75 grain Hornady ELD's in my .223 though.
25-20 also kills deer when you hit them right, in case anyone was wondering.
...there were some gun writers who said the .243 was too small as well when it came out. But they were even older than Ingwe.
Who knew that Adam was a gun writer?!? Did Eve complain about all the time he was spending in gun shops and out hunting? Did she complain about how he was busting the budget every month with all of his Internet reloading component purchases?
You, sir are a true fountain of firearms history and knowledge!
