Well that doesn't bode well for people who may be buying with the protection of future warranty claims.

Yep.

Maybe somebody else bought Weaver, and decided on a declaration of independence from Vista.

OT-- In my experience with them thus far, all who declare independence from Vista are better off...

This is the OP. I said I would provide a review after using the scope, so here are a few thoughts.

This is a heavy scope. The specs said about 28 ounces, my scale shows it is just under 30. It has about 30 mils of total elevation.

I shot yesterday. With a snowy background with orange dots on white paper there was some CA. It isn't bad, that is there depending on lighting and target. I hung a large piece of paper and using a plumb bob measured off seven mills. I dialed it in and the scope gave me half a mill high with perfect horizontal . Return to zero was spot on. I did this three times with the same results. I like the locking Turrets.

On 9X a SWFA3-9 had a better view.

The reticule has hollow centers. I am not used to that, but it seems like it will work fine. I played with the illumination at dusk. The Bush Nell has much more clear illumination. This weaver bleeds a little. However, my glass and illumination remarks need taken with some skepticism because I have horrible vision.

I dropped the gun on its butt stock on the cement bench a few times and the scope held zero. For the cost, it seems like it will work well. I did like the LRHS better, that I got this for half of the price and after one trip to the range, think it will work fine for its intended uses.

Sorry for the spelling and typos, I am speaking into a portable device instead of typing on the desktop.

.5 mil error over 7 mils is quite large...

It is the most I have seen in the last year and I will need to test and adjust.

For comparison, all at 7 mils, my swfa 1-6 is .3

My swfa 3-9 is spot on elevation but moves .1 right. The crosshairs look level.

The old bushnell elite tactical 3-12 I had was .2

The 3-12 lrhs was maybe .1

The 4.5-18 lrhs was spot on.

The sightron s3 was spot on

This is with my informal testing of my own scopes, so is not gospel, but it is repeatable and easily measured with an accurate rifle and load.

Since I started using that brownells scope leveling tool and a plumb line scopes do a lot better with not moving a tiny bit horizontally... my eye problem makes straight lines seem curved and the tool really helps.
