Thanks for the info guys. Seems there's a lot I need to learn. I just figured crap, if I'm on the mountain already why not look for some and maybe make a few bucks.

I have fifty acres in the North Carolina mountains. Lots of ginseng. And if I catch you on my land, I am gonna find out if you have a purty mouth....

When getting the seeds from wild , you have to make sure they are mature enough to just about drop . That is the reason for revisits and lightly brushing your hand over the seeds , when you come back and they eventually fall off from a mild touch , they were about ready to drop , meaning they were mature enough to plant . Looking for them in the fall helps by spotting the red seeds . Once you find some it becomes easier to spot , but doesn't make it easier to locate . Kenneth

Once your eyes learn the spectrum of the leaves, that will aid your search tremendously. Same for scoping out pot patches on state forest land. ....and same for road hunting for deer standing in hardwoods while driving 50 mph down a state highway

Also certain "pointer plants" will lend higher to the probability of being in an area where idea soils will yield ginseng.
Here, it's a small species of fern

If mexicans get their way with America...there wont be a stick left to burn and we'll be 3ft deep in shïtty diapers Dont forget Mars-like landscapes with 184 goats on each 3 acres tract. Simply Gorgeous. Oops, also forgot obligatory 5 occupied derelict mobile homes on same said tracts. You just described Mt. Pleasant Texas. Thank you Pilgrams Chicken, Priefert, and Big Tex and all the other trailer manufacturers in Mt. Pleasant for all the illegal migrants you hire to save a couple of bucks on labor.
