400 grain Speer with a schitload of IMR 4064 with a velocity (that is how fast the bullet is leaving the muzzle) of 2500 fps (FPS is Feet Per Second, that is how bullet speed is measured with firearms.) Forgot the primer,it is a CCI 250 Mag (CCI is Cascades Cartridge Inc.) The bullet is .458" which refers to bullet diameter in tens, hundreds and thousandths of an inch. Schitload refers to the powder charge in not to precise measurement.

Gotta say it, thanks for the pictures. Damn awesome fishing there in your area. Beautiful fish! As for soaking the rifles have you done a thread on how you prep them for the wet? Polyurethane on the blued parts?

The scope is a Leupold VX !! 1-4x in Leupold mounts and rings. Also using Weatherby .460 W.M brass with IIRC some Norma thrown in. The bunny rabbit was @ 75 yards away, which I took an offhand shot (Offhand refers to shooting without a rest of any kind i.e. no support of the rifle except in my hands.) The rifle weighs as is in the picture 11 lbs and the recoil is not that bad. It does have a Pendelton muzzle brake. I think I killed the bunny in July or possibly early-August.

No,I have no intention of using the 400 grain Speer for big game like deer or elk. I will use a 400 grain Swift A-Frame at 2600 fps for them. The Speer's are just plinking loads for varmints. I do have 500 grain Hornady DGX,Nosler Partition and Swift A-Frame. I would like to see Nosler make a .458" 400-450 grain Partition. A 400 grain Speer sure does a job on a jack rabbit. I am going to try and see if I can cut one in two with these Speer's.
