Yesterday 200# Whitetail, 139 Scenar, 2900 fps 6.5 PRC, About 200 yards, Hit left elbow shattered it and went into chest, DRT. made a hell of a mess. Rio7 You think bone fragments created a Claymore class wound? Pat used the 139 Scenar to good effect for years, pushed at those speeds. DF

123's may be a bit expansive at higher speeds, my reason for moving to the 136L.
The 139 Scenar over MRP in my Swede is an optimal load. It's more finicky than the CM, so when I find an optimal load for that one, I stay with it.
The Creed shoots so many combos well, it's harder to decide. It was an easy choice with the Swede.
DF I tend to agree with this though I've only taken about 1/2 dozen animals w/ the 123 Scenar. Typical VLD behaviour, good initial penetration w/ solid grenading of the vitals. Everything hit has been quite dead, but only 3 were pass throughs, even w/ impact velocities around 2500fps. David

I've never hunted with Scenars, but I have hunted with several other brands of same bullet type. I think Lapua uses a harder core than pure lead, and the bullets seem to hold together better, from the results guys have reported. I'd suggest keeping them above 2000 fps impact speed, which is a long way out there with nearly every cartridge.

Mule deer buck I killed a few years back, with a 139gr scenar through a 6.5 SAUM, at less that 50 meters. It entered at the neck/shoulder, angled through towards the offside front shoulder, and was lodged under the hide, without core separation. Needless to say, he went straight to the ground, and never took a step. This buck was taken with the same rifle, and load, a year earlier. It was a broadside shot at 465 meters, behind the shoulder. Broke a rib going in, broke one exiting. He ran about 25 meters, and went down.
Luck....is the residue of design...

Pat, nice trophies.
I see you using more ELD-M than Scenar these days.
Would love to hear your thinking on that.

DF I've been using a lot of both, and still shooting JLK's, and Berger.

Anybody have any background on the 220 Scenars in .308. Was thinking of giving them a shot in my 300 RUM.
