Grab some Pop Corn and get comfortable.....there's no shortage of self proclaimed experts on the fire'. Including you? Nope...I ain't saying a word even though I have a pile of CI and have zero problems with any of it. All Good FG. I know you know CI.

We use cast almost every day also, most of the newer stuff comes already seasoned. Most people ruin the seasoning when the clean them wrong. I have 6 different skillets & 7 dutch ovens & 2 griddles, they all get used. Did a pan of corn bread today, my Aunt Betty's favorite recipe.
Dick Hey, thanks for the recipe.

Seasoning aside isn't the proper cleaning just a wet towel?

The way I do it never lasts. I have a nice cast iron Dutch oven but my 4 or 5 skillet collection needs some help. Does anyone have a foolproof method from cleaning, to oil type, to the number of times into the oven? You have to add to the season with each use. After initial seasoning, you have to add to it each time you cook. Wash it lightly with hot water and a brush (no soap, of course), then rinse with cool water. Then wipe. Now apply about a quarter teaspoon of bacon grease to a paper towel and wipe the whole cooking surface down with it. Now onto the stove at max flame for a little over two minutes, till it starts to smoke. Now take it off. Do this every time and you will not lose season. Exactly what I do. Mom always used cast iron. But never seasoned it. Washed and dried. But never seasoned. Just lots of oil when cooking. Wife’s grandma is scared of cast iron. Wife was raised by her and never used it. Now, cast is about the only thing she cooks with.

Wash it with dish soap and it will need to be reseasoned.

And this reminds me of another issue I have. Can anyone make cornbread without it falling apart? My wife certainly can’t.

I tried seasoning several times and couldn't see the need of it....now I just wash it, dry it and use it....use spray cooking oil and no problems. If I have to reseason it after each use, why not just wash it and re oil when cooking.

jahrs,
Tell your lady to PM me & I'll give her a KILLER recipe for cornbread that is at least 150 years old, out of Mississippi. - It's been made in my husband's family since before the 1860s.
Sincerely, DarlaG

best thing is to ask your self if you like bacon and cornbread. They can be cleaned with that dreaded soap but best rinse in hot water then over to the stove for a flame dry, till all water is boiled off. When cooking cornbread remember to get the skillet smoking hot on the stove before putting mix in,otherwise it will stick. I know this for a fact, done it many times.

Gawd....its like people are fixing to circumsize their kid to save a nickle but dont want to mess it up.
Cook with the stoopid thing and use some grease or oil.
Wipe it out and throw a little oil in it if you want.
If its real schitted up wash the damn thing then oil it if you are gonna leave it set.
I am MAGA.
