Thanks Dirtfarmer. Seems like an active and friendly forum. Not always... Sorta like eating chicken wings, you eat the meat, spit out he bones... Not too hard to tell the difference... DF Haa, so true. I just bought a Ruger #1 in 35 Whelen. I ordered a couple of boxes of Superformance 200gr to try out.

stone that will be a horse of a different color there. i believe hornady loads the 35 whelen in there spectacular interlock bullet NOT the sst. if hornady loaded the 260 rem with a 129 grain interlock and it shot well in my gun i'd be done looking for THE bullet as the interlock will do all a whitetail hunter needs imho. It's odd to hear a guy say that a fairly light for caliber SST going pretty fast (Superformance ammo) at a close distance did too little damage/didn't kill fast enough. Most comments directed toward SST's here on the fire are that they are practically varmint bullets and shouldn't be used on deer at all. I think they are an excellent bullet for all manor of game animals, even when shoulders are hit, but they do a lot of damage in that case.
I've seen some variety when it comes to how animals react to being shot, but in general, I find that the more "soft" bullets cause the quicker reaction (death) with the least drama.
And you can always shoot again. We are not sniping from a hidden position; we are hunting.
