i would love to have one but not at the current price

I had one years ago, traded or sold it. Accuracy was non-existent. The only reason I would still like to have it is so that I could sell it at current prices.

I have 1 that a friend built . he set it up so he could change out several barrels to shoot everything out of the same action. it has the 17 hmr on it now. shoot really small groups the trigger is way too light but my friend passed on and left the gun to me. as he set it up it would shoot 22 short - 22lr - 22mag -17hmr -17m2 and 5 mm rem. like I said he enjoyed changing it around. fun gun to play with. check over at rimfire central to see his post on getting everything to work on same action. he went by sight name cltus hungwell. get one if it enters you and don't look back.

My experience wih Ruger rimfires is accuracy is terrible. Combine that with the 22 mag generally is not that accurate.
I would not own one.

Don’t have any, but friends have rimfire Rugers.

I would have said that about Ruger rimfire accuracy at one time. I got frustrated with a heavy barrel 77/22 magnum one time and sold it. I had tried 3-4 loads and it just wouldn't shoot. I warned the guy I sold it to that it wouldn't shoot. He asked me what ammo I had been using. I told him. He showed me a target a week later with several 10 shot groups with all of the holes touching. I asked him what he did. He tried different ammo. That seems to be the story with Ruger AND with 22 Magnum. You'll have to try more ammo, but you'll indeed find some that is accurate.

I tried every round available at the time. Sucked.

Not long after that, I bought a 77/22M, it shot great, but only with Rem 40 JHP. Everything else wasnt too impressive. That wasnt an issue until 2008, then that ammo became impossible to find. It too went down the road.

I have a 10/22 and 77/22 that are both really accurate, so not a Ruger basher here.

I wasn’t aware that they increased in value. What is the currant price for a clean one. The one I found is a pretty good deal.

I just bought a nice clean one for 550. I really liked the looks, handling, but had not heard much great about accuracy. I put a Nikon 3-9 on it, and shot it some. Started out with CCI 40gr soft point, and hollow point. Accuracy was not terrible, at around 3/4" at 50, for 5 shots. Curious about different ammo, I got some 40gr Winchester sp. It REALLY likes those. Very happy that it is under 1/2" at 50, and an inch or better at 100. I shot a hole in a clean target at 100, and tried to hit the hole. Skimmed it a few times, and was pretty impressed. Had a few failures to fire, but primer strikes looked good. I dunno what that is. Nice rifle, overall. Kinda high priced, but looking at levers, they pretty much all are. Wanted one for a long time, nice that it shoots well. Trigger is a bit heavy, but not bad. Had a Winchester 150 that HAD to be 10 pounds. That was a crap trigger.

You really don't stand a lot to lose. If it's not accurate as you want, there's always someone out there who wants one, accuracy be damned.

They are asking $600.00 for it. I thought that was a little high.

My Wife found one a couple of years ago. It was NIB gave 500.00 it's not a bad shooter. It would probably be better with some trigger work and better glass. I'm going too leave it alone because it is hers and she is very happy with it. She gets 1.5" groups at 75 yards using sticks. I've got to use a bench to do that.

I shoot a 96/17 and it's super accurate. I had one of the first 96/22 mags with heavy figured wood and it was a one holer. Sold it for $175 100 years ago.

I have an extra brl. in 17 hmr I was told it would fit a 96/22m.

Pretty sure the only difference between a 10/22mag and a 96/22 mag barrel, is 2 extractor cuts on the 96, 1 on rhe 10/22.

The 17 hmr brl has cuts on both sides of the chamber. Installed it seems to work fine.

I did take home that rifle. Happy so far.
