I think the democrats are receiving a lot of pressure from their voters. Especially the government workers who belong to the union around DC. Pelosi is also receiving a lot of pressure from moderate Dems in red states. Trump knows he want lose any votes over this. But the democrats may. Hasbeen

It's the only play they have and it's worked well all times before. They'll wait it out as long as it doesn't start hurting them too bad. They aren't playing with the same presidents they had before so it might just give them a lesson if he can manage to hold out long enough. Were it me they wouldn't even get the time of day but Trump keeps trying to negotiate with them. At some point they will have to come to the table or get buried in their own dung.

Nope, not chance. The longer the shutdown goes on the more it hurts Trump and the economy, Pelosi has played this game before.
Remember why, specifically, the Bill of Rights was written...remember its purpose. It was written to limit the power of government over the individual.

they will all cave, that's how it works, Trump will get some money, but not all and it will be for pieces of the wall. D's will get DACA extension etc. Both sides say "we win", both sides say the other lost.

I think Don has painted Nancy and her House majority into the corner where he wants her and them. He is the finest manipulator we've ever had in the Whitehouse, he took his gloves off when he announced to run for the office... To long have republicans tried to give an inch to lose a mile to the socialist bastardos we call democrats. What we might see is a Presidential announcement that some of those furloughed are now jobless and more on the way permanently out the door. The right kind of coercion is the only way to deal with these pinko commies, Don Trump understands that better than anyone, he didn't get his wealth by leaving his gloves on. MB

Interesting ...The Dems need a Gettysburg, a point to turn the losses around. They have been getting "trumped" since 11/16, and have little to show for their efforts. They want a victory, any victory to hold up to their people and prove their relevance. Kavannah was supposed to be their victory, but they lost that one. RBG has them petrified. They would love to have a way to save face and "claim" victory, but they don't see one. Their strategy at this moment is dig in their heels and just say "no" to anything Trump does. They are praying that public opinion swings their way. So far, it hasn't happened, and that's a bigger problem for them than it is Trump. This is how I see it. Staunch never-Trumpers see the shutdown as all Trump's fault, but they do not constitute the majority in this country. The reasonable people, the moderates, and the Right, all see this as a Trump-vs-Democrat-House issue, and know that there are TWO players here. As such, the longer the shutdown goes, the more pressure there is on the two players to end it. If one side keeps offering options, trying to negotiate, etc (Trump), he will come to appear increasingly as the reasonable one. The one who keeps saying never-never-no (Pelosi) will increasingly be seen as the problem. If public opinion was truly behind Nasty Nancy, it would be manifestly obvious by now. The fact that it isn't has Pelosi shaking in her boots and lying awake at night. In another week, Trump will address the nation and Pelosi can't do a thing to stop that. If she bars the doors to the House chambers, Trump will deliver the address somewhere else, which will look terrible for the Democrats. What he will say to the American people will make the Democrats look impotent and petulant at best, and criminally obstructionist at worst. Nothing good for the Democrats can come out of the SOTU address. Nancy knows this, and is desperately hoping to get some kind of movement from Trump before next Tuesday. I don't think she's going to get it, because he holds all the good cards and she's got crap in her hand. She is bluffing, and everyone in America knows it. The wild card here might be Air Traffic Control. I've been following this and it's a true crisis in the making. The ATC's are short-staffed already, working overtime to meet the needs, and not getting paid. Some of them are doing part-time gigs like driving Uber to pay their bills, so they're even more exhausted. Worse, the support staff who maintain the radar and radio technology upon which ATC relies are not working, so equipment is starting to fail. It is only a matter of time until one ATC center or another either 1) f u c k s up and causes an airplane crash disaster, or 2) says it's no longer safe and shuts down. When that happens, air traffic across the nation will cease within hours. This means commercial passenger planes, freight (UPS, etc), and most military aviation. The outcry will be deafening when this happens. It will be interesting to see how the spin goes, but I think Trump will win this one. First thing, I know he knows this is an issue, and I expect he has a plan to order ATC back to fully functional and paid status. Second, if he waits until it becomes a full blown crisis, he can simply order full funding for air traffic control system immediately, and this will dump the responsibility onto Nasty Nancy and Cheesy Chuck in the public eye. The Dems can't win here.

It is epically wrong that people are working and not getting paid. Isnt that against the law? The government can find a way to get them paid. As citizens, we should not stand for this. It is always the little guy who is a pawn in their games. If not their wages, it is SS checks or medicare payments or payment to the military.

It is only the non-essential federal workers who should be not getting paid. ATC's should never have been thus classified. Most of the non-essential are likely Dem's. So the Dem leaders will likely get most of the pressure to end the shutdown.
At this point Trump may not even want to run for another term. But he will still do all he can to improve our country's situation and to fulfill the campaign promises he made.

It is not that hard to shut down every airport in America. Just an order from the CIC. Remember 9-11?
If ATC can not do the job, send them home and close the airports, just like they did the parks.

ATC and TSA are both working, and from my travels last weekend from NH to NJ to Denver to WY and back, they are doing a good job. We noticed no difference in any airport we were in and ATC did a GREAT job getting us home around the east coast snow storm. They are not getting paid, I have a friend who is ATC and they are working normal, but burning savings. Time is running short.
R's tried to pass a bill to pay them, not to open things, but just pay them. It was blocked by Ds

I don't know if the Dims will cave. The reason they don't want this wall is because it will be a permanent monument to their caving in and they can't have that.
KC Exactly. "Border security measures" come and go (mostly go), but a wall is forever.

MAGA! What is a non-essential worker? The FAA laid off its inspectors and certifiers, so airline planes are being inspected by airline employees without oversight (recall fines leveled on airlines who fudged work) and Boeing is not able to deliver planes to airlines since the FAA "non-essential" certifiers are on furlough. How about the food inspectors who've been furloughed (although they've been recalled). And today, the General Services Administration (GSA) which administers the leases on Federal buildings has advised landlords that they may not get paid for another few months (a hardship as many have to pay mortgages on these buildings). So far, the shutdown has cost the economy $10 billion and the White House recently announced that it might be double that (so far).
