Did Leupold ever make an actual stainless steel scope? I was in my LGS today and they had a rifle with a silver Leupold scope on it, but it didn't look like any silver Leupold I had ever seen before. The shop owner said that the person selling the rifle (consignment) claimed that it was an actual stainless steel scope... I've never heard of such a thing, so I thought I'd check with y'all.

They made one in gun metal gray for a while. I think it was supposed to match Ruger's target gray finish (or whatever they called it). Probably what you saw.

Their original silver scopes were more shiny than the more recent matte silver. That could be where the confusion lies.

It was definitely not the gun metal grey finish... it was mounted on an older stainless Ruger (not the latest matte SS finish), and it pretty much matched the finish of the rifle. Sort of a brushed aluminum look, but the shop owner indicated that it was actually stainless steel.

Typical gun shop sales guy retardism Ain't that the truth! If you don't know, just make something up that sounds cool and jacks the price up.

As far as I recall, Weaver was the only scope manufacturer that made scope tubes of steel. Did they make any unblued? Don't know. Unlikely.

Probably clear coated aluminum to match plain stainless.
Swarovski did offer the PH line in steel tubes or aluminum. But the finish and color was identical. Weight was the biggest difference.

Typical gun shop sales guy retardism Not sure that is properly conjugated, but I it is right on!
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.
