All:
I went to a gun show today and found a mint M70 FWT in 243. Aluminum buttplate. Probably mid 1950s. The buttplate had all its black finish. It looked 99.5% new. The guy wanted $1500.
I didn’t get it because I already have one, though not nearly as good. I would say mine is 90%.
Was his price about right, low, high in today’s market? I don’t price these that often.

RAS, I remembered you have a nice 243 fwt. I'd say the price of the one you saw today was fair market value. As you said, you just don't see them that often and probably really don't see them in that condition very often. I'll bet it was sweet my friend. I know the last one I handled was one a local guy had for sale for quite some time. His final price mark down for me was $1,350.00 and I didn't buy it. I still kick myself in the azz for not buying it because it was an all original 1955 model and was pristine (around 90%). I was actually shaking a little the last time I held it.. His wife runs a small gunshop here locally and every time I go into the shop, I think about that little sweetheart of a rifle...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I just saw a 1960 FWT 243. Had the plastic butt and was probably in 85% cond. LGS wanted 1225. I believe its been there for sale for about 4 months.

RAS: "I" would have bitten my lip (or a bullet) and bought that 99.5% Featherweight 243!
Money is easily replaceable - that vintage (aluminum buttplate) Featherweight in that somewhat rarer caliber is NOT!
Yeah if I had been at that gunshow yesterday I would still have a big grin on my face today.
I say you missed out.

This gun was new without box. 99% to me is stone mint. 100% is NIB.

Price is in line IMO Not a rare caliber, would put it with the 270. Less common than the 06 more common than a 358 or 257 Seen way worse go for way more....

I sold a pre 64 featherweight in 243 caliber about 9 months ago for $950 locally. It was a very clean and accurate rifle except
someone had put a recoil pad on it. Why someone would put a recoil pad on that caliber is beyond me.

I found one that was and still is a mint rifle in of all places a gun shop in Anchorage. I've had several FWT and two STD in 243 and for what you said about the gun it was worth the asking price. $1500 wouldn't buy mine either.
