What I've never understood is why so many consider blackface to be offensive. Is this just a thing that the grievance industry has created?
Personally, I see nothing wrong with the Frito Bandito. Amos and Andy were really two white guys doing a radio program. It was funny. A black person can get skin lightening treatments and bleach and dye their hair to look more white, and nobody bats an eye. Dustin Hoffman can dress up and play the part of a man pretending to be a woman, and it's just fine.
What is there about a white person made up to look black that gets some people all bent out of shape?
While we're at it, is a Korean person eating a hamburger cultural appropriation?
If you are dressing up to be say a black movie character, or Michael Jackson, or Obama even, that should not be offensive, it's a costume to portray a charcter, like dressing up as the hulk, Captain America, etc.
If you are dressing up like "black face" the OLD characters that where white, but doing it because black actors weren't allowed, that may cross the line
Not a whole lot different than indians taking offense over indian team mascots, the tomahawk chop et al. Overly thinskinned making much ado over nothing.

I'm surprised there hasn't been some uprising to ban the old Westerns when Indians were portrayed by whites. I remember one Daniel Boone episode when Vic Tayback, aka Mel from Alice, played an Indian chief. That was funny.
Denton: I also have been waiting for someone to explain that to me! I also grew up in a mining and logging community on the west slopes of the Cascade Mountains and I did not see a dark skinned person that I distinctly remember until I was 18 or so. I am mostly white (25% Native American Indian) and I take no offense when folks of any kind put war paint on or apply sunscreen - I mean WTF? Oh well - mine is not to understand why, mine is just to do and die - I guess. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
Al Jolson was the King of Blackface and called one of the world’s greatest performers; not a racist by those who knew him. Black actors lined up at his funeral. They understood the reasons he did so much blackface.

To the OP, I have absolutely no idea.
If E. Warren wants to dress as Pocahontas, I'm fine with it. Just don't make any heritage claims. If Oprah wants to mock Dolly Parton, I'm good with that too.
I find it odd how many of those with the most liberal leanings are fine with a cross dresser standing beside their daughter in a locker room, but go ballistic over a temporary complexion issue.
I can't imagine how unhappy these folks are with life. Just going out in public must shake their beings to the very foundation.
Maybe it's a case of life being so good for them that they have nothing of substance to complain about.
I really disliked M. Kelly such that I refused to watch any of her programs or interviews. Even with that, I feel the lady was railroaded. Seems no one is entitled to an opinion anymore.
I'd not have a friend or coworker in this world if I only hung out with those that always agreed with me.
Folks should just buck up and tend to things that really matter in life.
If an issue or opinion is not a crime, no one should have their career ruined.
Next party I go to, I might just dress as a pygmy eskimo. Being 6'4" I hope I don't offend any pygmies. I may also visit a Chinese restaurant and might try to blend in by using chop sticks.

When I was a kid I was a member of an Indian lore group & I dressed up like an Indian. Why? I liked Indians!
That's it right there. It's just another thing they can say "offends" them. The more that they get "offended," the more free chit is thrown their way.
In the Negro way of thinking, which is not as easy as it sounds, they are always out to be a victim, and don't want to be held responsible for their actions. So, the more they can find to blame the White man for, the better they think it is for them.
Liberals have no sense of humor. Nobody's allowed to tell jokes anymore. Pretty sad. I wish they would just go find their safe space, curl up in the fetal position, and shut the F up.

First off, the movie White Chicks is so not okay. Beyond its 15% Rotten Tomatoes score, the movie is homophobic and sexist, and the whiteface makeup worn by the Wayans brothers, and any people of color for the matter, is offensive. But does wearing whiteface have the same meaning and historical legacy as blackface? It doesn’t.
Blackface is connected to a history that involved dehumanizing and disenfranchising black people. Not only does blackface depict violent and offensive racial stereotypes, it’s an act committed by a group that both has and continues to wield disproportionate power and privilege — making it an act of dominance and superiority. That means something when you think about the systemic disenfranchisement faced by people of color.
Whiteface, much like erroneous ideas of “reverse racism,” exists in an entirely different power dynamic. From what we know in history, white people in America have never been persecuted for the color of their skin, nor have institutions been made and maintained to oppress and disenfranchise white Americans. There is a very real power dynamic in which blackface operates. It has existed for centuries to oppressing people of color.

No, don't listen to Rush anymore. Nothing against him, just don't listen to radio.
There should be an obvious difference between dressing up like a black person (Halloween costume and be Micheal Jackson) and portraying teh "black face" characterizations from history. One was intended to be offensive, the other is not.
It used to a custom here, and in the South, for elderly, well respected Black men in the community to be called "uncle." A few weeks ago, a friend of mine met an older Black guy that worked for several of the local businesses and without giving it much thought, said to him "hello Uncle Frank." The Black guy came unglued, and said if he had a gun he'd kill someone who called him that, and really made a big scene out of it. My friend said he was sorry, that he didn't mean any disrespect. I told him just to call the man a Black SOB the next time he saw him.

About 9 outta 10 negro women wear wigs,.. that ain't their hair, it's some Chinese woman's.
A guy told me that he was going to ask this red headed Negro gal that worked with him if the carpet matched the curtains. I said he needed to rephrase that and ask if the Velcro marched the curtains.

I think it has to do with our innate sense of wanting to fit-in or not stand-out. Most of us go through life wanting to be part of the group instead of standing outside of it. Think back to our days in grade school when we didn't want to get noticed or picked-on for being different.
Imagine you are at a dinner party and everyone there is dressed in a tuxedo. A repair man shows up to fix the HVAC equipment which is not working. The repair man is not dressed in a tuxedo, but wearing his work clothes. What if one of the people wearing a tuxedo left the room and came back wearing work clothes. Do you think the repair man would find this strange? What if this person also brought tools and mimicked what the repairman was doing? What do you think the reaction would be then?
Let's look at a reverse of the above scenario. A man dressed in a nice suit shows up to a house where there is a summer party and everyone there is wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Do you think the man in the suit would feel anxious about being the only one there dressed differently?
Ok. These examples only deal with clothing which can be changed easily to fit-in. Now imagine the color of your skin makes you look different. It is the color you received since birth and there is nothing you can do to change it. Now imagine someone in the majority changing their appearance to match your appearance. How would you feel then?

I think you could answer your question yourself. At your next company halloween party dress up in black face. Hopefully the HR people will be nice enough to educate you, rather than handing you a pink slip.
The use of blackface in american culture fell out of favor by the late 1950's. So for a grown adult to be doing it after 1970 really shouldn't be accepted as normal. The individual doing could be rightfully called a racist at the worst, or on the nicer side stupidly ignorant.
Grandpa fought Fascists in WWII, Dad fought Communists in Vietnam. - American is meant for the middle.
All humor is vicious to a certain degree. The only kind of humor that is palatable to everybody would probably have to be self deprecating. Which explains why Chris Rock can joke about MLK street being dangerous, or how n's can mess up black people trying to have a good time. It also explains how blacks can call each other racist names without offense. It is never fun to be made fun of or deprecated by someone you think does not like you.

I am of German heritage and don't care about Nazi references or being called Kraut or other slurs. I know who I am and insults never really strike a nerve.
Guess some groups must believe themselves inferior to get so offended.
The Negro can say, do, or act anyway he wants to, and if someone says it offensive, he can say that it was because of the way Whitey has treated him. Never mind the fact that slavery was done away with over 150 years ago.
On the other hand, if a White person so much as looks at a Negro the wrong way, he is automatically declared to be a racist and is sentenced to the guillotine.
Until it ceases to be that way, I will continue to be an old racist.......and it doesn't bother me one damn bit.
Where I live near Seattle it is 75% liberal. I cannot say the word "retarded" or I get a big bad reaction. That word has not been politically correct for 10 years.
I think a gray haired 67 year old man should be given a pass on speaking the way it was done 10 years ago.
Black face? That is Al Jolson's schtick 100 years ago.
Dave Chappelle in whiteface 10 years ago.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO VERT TIRED OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERY THING OFFENDS SOMEONE! TAKE A HEART PILL!!!!!! TOMORROW IT WILL BE SOMETHING ELSE, LOTS MORE IMPORTANT FISH TO FRY. I DO NOT CARE WHAT SOME KID DID 40 YEARS AGO!

Har! Har! Har! That's the funniest schit I've read ALL week!
It's not.........................except that blacks do, & must always, just have to have something to be "offended" by & will never, never, ever be satisfied with anything less that running the country, subjugating whites, & laying around on their azzes.
Unfortunately for us all, their aspirations & their capabilities just don't coincide & we have very wrongly decided that what they can't & won't earn, should be given to them anyway, just because, once upon a time, some were brought here as slaves.
We have created a monster & instead of starving it to death, we keep feeding it, all the while hoping in vain that it will be satisfied & go away.
Basically because in minstrel shows whites would wear blackface and portray blacks as amoral blithering idiots. Would piss me off too.
Bingo!!! Amazing anyone even asks this question. -tnscouter
Well, there is Sharpton, Jackson, those amoral blithering idiots masquerading as congress critters, and the list goes on. So there is some justification right there. I know a fair number of black folks, none of whom I would consider blithering idots. At least, they are all hard working family people, so maybe they are, considering what parasites so many of their race are..... why work when the gubbmint will pay you not to?
