I just happened to have my walking stick that weekend! 🤣
It was the Gutierrez-Magee Green Flag Republic weekend at the Presidio. We had fun!

We had to take a cannon off one of the bastions for relocation. The 2 pounder ( bore diameter actually closer to a
3 pounder, but we’ll call it a 2 pounder). We did shoot it too! Much fun! Made lots of smoke and noise. Tourist enjoyed it.

( With my apologies for photo quality)

First is a little pouch for my little .40 flinter, Annchen.

Next is a bag I finished just yesterday for my .62, Liebchen. Nice and roomy. Stuck an 1 1/4" gusset in this bag.

After much thought and knashing of teeth, I believe I have determined my next project.

A 1792 US contract rifle, .54 calibre.

May go with a barrel length of about 38” and try for one of the alleged “short” rifles.

Plain maple stock of the Lancaster Dickert style as he was a govt contractor for such rifles. Early model so I will go with a large Siler flintlock. Instead of one of the later M1803 or Common rifle locks. This may take me a while.

I had enough leather left over to build old son a new pouch for his .40 flinter.
Just finished it this morning. Waiting for dye to dry so I can rub it down with some bear oil!

Thanks PDS! I believe son will like it too! I added antler handled vent pick and pan brush to strap. Bristles in brush are made from a kudu tail that was on like a quarter of a hide that Rio7 very graciously gave me!!! Them tail hairs make good bristles!!!

Made another flintlock priming horn today of polished axis shed. Will go in the pouch of my Virginia/English style rifle.

[Linked Image]

I have no issues or problems priming with FFFG. But looking thru my magazine I realized I’ve inherited 4 lbs of FFFFG. So,,,,,,,, I might as well use it. Besides making stuff keeps me off the streets.

Thanks 44! Fabricated a little flint wallet yesterday for one of my rifle’s hunting pouch. Protect flints edge, hold extra tow for cleaning, a tow worm and ball puller, turnscrew, and a small leather awl.

(Powder measure for scale. Wallet open 9"x 5". Little leather "ears" keep stuff from falling out).

Thanks Gunner!

Threw these together yesterday for a hunting pouch strap. They do come in handy.

What did you use for the bristles?

Funny you should ask PDS.

Rio7 gave me the bottom quarter of a tanned Kudu skin complete with tail. Tail makes most excellent brush bristles. But horsehair, like tail or mane, work great too! In the past daughter and SIL’s horses would see me approaching with scissors! LOL!
