I have a Kimber 280 AI. I only shoot Nosler boxed ammo. I have been considering a CDS. I do not however have a chronograph. What are my best options? Any and all advice is appreciated. I’m also trying to consider scope weight in this equation.

Springcove, If you have a local shooting range, it may have a chronograph you could use, or maybe befriend someone at the range that will help you. There may even be a “campfire” member near you that could help. Worst case scenario.... buy your own. Haven’t priced one in years, but I think you can get a decent one for $100 to $150. memtb

There are a lot of variables just in your rifle barrel by itself affecting speed; Is your barrel a fast or slow barrel, different then your twist rate. Length of barrel and now what is the twist rate..This is just your rifle impacting your velocity.

Box ammo even with better quality controls by some manufacturers-there published speeds, depending on bullet are often based on a 24” inch test barrel. Is your barrel a 24” and matching the manufacturers twist rate?

Without running rounds through a chronograph it’s a total WAG. The number one reason people complain about inaccurate cds dials is because they didn’t chrono the ammunition they will be using.

I suggest buying one. Use a buddies or call a shooting range in your area and ask if you can seek help from a shooter who has one and willing to do you a total solid by meeting you at the range to chronograph your rounds. 😎

You don’t need a chronograph, if you’ve got a place to actually shoot out to 600-800 yards. I know a lot of folks don’t, so trusting a chronograph and solid BC info will have to do.

But, i tend to trust reality a lot more than theory....
