The last 53D I flew was out of Lash Kar Gah in 12-13 I think. Crew was outta Hawaii I believe and we’re some squared away dudes but them poor bastards looked like beggars with all the hydraulic fluid that dripped from it. I even looked like I’d flown 10K miles just riding after an hour flight.
Good memories. All the CH53D's final days were in Hawaii. Hydraulic Fluid is a good thing! Not bad for 40 years of service. The CH53K is a thing of Beauty and a Beast of a machine. Full Glass Cockpit, Fly by Wire, No engine or transmission limitations. Wider cabin and narrower footprint.

And Damn Lapua! I missed out on the Balkans and anything Europe, IZ, AFG and Africa for me most of the time. Estonia looks like a place I would’ve been a serious Libbo risk. Estonia well worth the trip. 90% blondes with blue eyes Yup.... would’ve been on lock down in no time. I got busted from Cpl to LCpl for missing a movement. I don't regret it at all.

Yeah felt great, sure as hell let me know I was alive! I was working under the sliding doghouse. Avi needed to turn the blades but failed to let anyone know. I went to stand up to climb down and caught the corner of the trailing edge. I hit it so hard they said the whole helicopter shook. Lucky there was a work stand next to the gunners window. I fell down onto that then fell off that to the ground. I don't really remember much of it. But my buddies gave me the play by play. I do remember the Dr saying we can't numb it we'll just staple. I said ok thinking it was going to hurt like a sum beatch, but it really wasn't bad. My buddy I was in the Corps with that worked with me in Balad also pulled out the staples. We were laughing our azzes off.
