My 6mm-06 is a 25" 1:9 Bartlein. I built it to shoot the 105 Berger and thought I needed a 1:8 but my gunsmith (who had built a bunch) preferred the 1:9 for bullets in that class due to the velocity potential with the '06 case.

I listened and accuracy and velocity have both been great. Maxes out around 3400 but I backed it down to 3300 to keep pressures down and maybe preserve barrel life a bit. Couldn't think of anything I could do at 3400 that I couldn't do at 3300.

Good info. I would have thought 8 twist, but understand what your smith is saying.

If it'll shoot the 105's, 9 twist may be all you need.

Wish my .240 was 9 instead of 10 twist. Although it does very will with 100 NPT's, I would like to shoot 105's.

I would still go 8 twist or even 7.7 twist to make sure it will stabilize the 115s and some of the exotic monos. More twist is better for stability after impact and I think it increases leathality. But you will not be lacking much if 100 grains is as heavy a bullet you can shoot.

Yes.
You could do 1/8, and shoot pretty much what's available now.

1/7 is mo betta due to the distinct possibility that bullets are going to continue to get longer and more streamlined.

1/6.5 or 1/6 might become the new necessary twist for the 120gr.+ 6mm bullets that will certainly show up in the next few years.

As a matter of fact, get the fastest twist you can might be the smartest thing you could do.

The LA gives me a long mag box, and the 6mm will it to equal a 6/06 in velocity with less powder.

its a PacNor barrel on it, so its pretty darn accurate...
