I bought a couple of cases of these 120 round packs back in the 1980s (maybe the 1990s), and I have about five of the 120 round packs left. I haven't shot any of my 7.62x39 rifles in many years, but have been thinking of shooting some of them and, searching for ammo, I found these in the back of my ammo cabinet. Each box says it's non-corrosive. Is this reliable labeling?

If your worried just clean your barrel with some Hoppe’s # 9 after shooting it.

Hoppes #9 is my go-to for cleaning barrels, but I don't believe it eliminates salts from corrosive ammo. That requires a flow of water.

Now I'm wondering if H03 means it was made in 2003. I know I was buying Russian 7.62x39 throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s. Not exactly sure now when I bought these. I still have some from the 1980s somewhere, but they are in blue boxes, whereas these are natural cardboard color.

Hoppe's is effective v. corrosive. If you are still worried use boiling water.

The only 7.62x39 ammo I've ever purchase that was corrosive came out of China, and I knew it was corrosive when I bought it. All the Russian stuff I've purchased since the 1990's has been fine.

I would have zero concern.

Shoot all that old stuff up if suspect
Break it completely down
Clean it with solvent
Flush out with scalding water
Blast out with air ,oil it down

SGammo has good deals
.17 to .20 cents per round stuff
Start out with known readily available stuff again
Berdan primed

Tula brought out the old 8m3 round again
Golden tiger is good stuff
The monarch brand academy stuff is barunal brown bear actually.
Lacquer coated and poly coated.

Get all ammo off your books for the year.

New stuff coming in

Fugging go to ranges all year long

Last 2 or 3 weeks of Sept
Spend 3 or 4 days a week on the range

Army ammo forecasting schitt for next 2 fys

If ya turn schitt in from ASP bunkers from one fy not fired that x amount of ammo is taking off your forecast for the next 2 yrs.

Sqd ldr in Korea my 2nd tour 95 96
I was given 18 k of 5.56 tracer to expend up in dragon valley outside of camp casey towards ROK Abn pass and 3 hrs to do it for brass and dunnage turn in
Told my 1sg it was gonna fugg the wpns up
Told me get it done

7 of us.
We did it
Had m16a2,s
Everyone of those wpns failed barrel erosion gauge check 2 months later.
Then I was asked why crazy

To make an exspendex even more ironic
Places like Korea and the Balkans during the Clinton years had ammo
But back in conus ammo was scarce for training due to Billy boy Clinton,s cuts
Korea getting new ammo replenishment each fy
But the on hand stock had to be fired up for new fy stock to get on the books

Whole system rigged for benjamins basically......

Everyone had little hands in the pie.
From ammo plants in whoever's congressional district
Transport
Contracting
Ammunition supply point workers.

By the time one round got in a Joe's magazine
That whole logistical system behind is boggling.

Big old system
Benjamins.......

Fire off a few rounds, and don't clean, and let the rifle set for a few days. Run a patch down the bore and see if there is any rust on it.

Good test, and not likely to cause any real harm if immediately dealt with. Although, all my 7.62x39 guns have chrome lined barrels. Wouldn't this delay rusting quite a bit?
