I have a small pea-size fibroma in my right foot plantar fascia, have an appointment with a foot doc next week to discuss. Google-fu seems to indicate PT, steroid injections, insoles, etc. I found several sites indicating surgery is a last ditch effort. I'm not yet to the last ditch effort part but am wondering how this will affect my back country hunting. I'll do surgery vs not going...............

I've had this for a couple of years but it never bothered me. My wife and I did a 20.5 mile day hike 2 weeks ago. Woke up the next day with no ill affects. Jogged twice that week on treadmill and woke up later in the week feeling like I was walking on a marble. Been icing and topical NSAID since and it's back to no pain. Walked 4 miles on Thurs, no pain.

Anyone else have this? What do you do about it?

No experience here, but good luck. Seems like something specific must have triggered it, when a 20-mile day hike didn't? Or do you think it was cumulative?

I'm hoping it's an overuse/aggravation with hiking/running too many days in a row. I hiked 10 miles in the Smokys yesterday with 17lb day pack and have no I'll effects this AM. But I did notice the marble effect toward the end of the hike yesterday. This seems to be a fairly common ailment - cant believe I'm the only person on the Campfire with it.

STOP using Google and hoping you have a quick recovery.

Good luck.
I had a similar little knot on my Achilles tendon.
Turns out, it was a frayed tendon.
I had toughed it out for almost two years, now the tendonitis
had become tendonitis. Calcified scar tissue.

Long story short, the pain is gone, the knot remains.
I can't stand to wear a work boot, low shoes only.
Hunting boots hurt, but I just have to suffer.
There is a new surgery that promises good results.
But, I have to do multiple therapy series, and only then will the
insurance consider the surgery. No guarantees.

Not crying on your shoulder, just suggesting you take this serious.

I come from the "tough it out, it will get better" camp.
Was wrong this time.

Thanks DB. I'm with you on addressing issues as they arise rather than pout them off. I've not had great luck toughing things out - they always get worse...............
