I have a love/hate relationship with my Airweight 642. As usual, short barreled J frames are more difficult to shoot accurately; add in a lighter version with big paws and it’s tougher. I have been on a search for better grips that will still allow pocket carry and preferably use of HKS speedloaders. I have tried Pachmyr Grippers (the full size version) and they are wonderful for shooting but terribly oversized for such a small gun. Currently, looking at the Pachmyr Compaqs and Hogue Monogrip #60000. The Hogue’s look to be similar in size to the Grippers (too large but I’m sure great for actually shooting) and the Hogue Bantams look very similar to the factory grips so I left them off. Suggestions? I’m willing to give up some size for better fit.

I like the Pachmyr Compaqs on J frames and similar small revolvers.

I like the Pachmyr Compaqs on J frames and similar small revolvers. I've always like those, too. Only problem with them is their stickiness on fabrics.

I have a largish Hogue wooden stock on a model 36 that lets me get 3 fingers on it and works with speed loaders. As far as pocket carry it depends on the pockets.

I’m the oddball, I prefer Magnas, smooth would probably be better for pocket carry.

Try Magna stocks with a Tyler T-Grip adapter.

Here's what I used on my 442. Wood, so non-sticky on fabrics, but more hand filling than the standard J-Frame wood grips from S&W, yet not overly large, either. Nice sharp checkering improves grip.

Can't remember. A custom grip maker. I posted the name here before when the subject has come up. Sorry.

Are those a bit longer than the frame?

J's are just like any other carry gun---you can have shootable or you can have concealable, but you probably can't have both.

Bantam boot rubber grips and a Mika pocket holster are just fine.

Are those a bit longer than the frame? No, but they fill in forward of the grip frame.

Yeah, those are on the wife's 640, not too big for her and give me a place for the little finger. I like Pacmayer Compacts too.
