I purchase a bear tag each year in MT. I have yet to take a bear. The way I reason it out in my head is that I have yet to find the right bear. Have had multiple opportunities. Have been on hunts where the hunt buddy took a bear. Have had hunt buddies encourage me to take a certain bear only to pass on the opportunity. Am I anti bear hunting? NO! Will I take a bear some day? Cannot answer that. Will I continue to buy a tag each year? Yes! It is within each of us to answer these questions ourselves. To those who bear Hunt I say hopefully you can reason it out in your own minds whether To do so or not. MTG Big color phase bears interest me. I am in your spot. Have not killed one in MT yet.

My first bear, 2010: My son got this one, spot 'n stalk, Washington: And this one: Our bear hunts have all been challenging, fun, and rewarding even if we didn't bring home a bear. We're doing pretty well though. Guy

The others bears are great too! Thanks. I thought you'd like the rifle... Spot and stalk. 306 yards was the last cover. One shot, 260 gr Nosler Accubond over 69 grains of RL-15... Gee, I wonder where I got that? Could hear that bullet slap, and down he went. I was pleased. Guy

Fireball - they both look great!
Where did you get that white/blonde one? Coastal British Columbia?
Beautiful bears, each of them.

All this bear talk has got me excited for spring. Had to stop by the LGS and pick up a couple of boxes of 195gr Hornady Interlocks for the ole 8x57 as they actually had some in stock. My boy really wants to shoot a bear with it and I can't find a reason to not let him. Now I just need the river ice to blow out so we can get to work.

Regards, Guy Cascade, my hunting buddy and I saw three bears that trip that were that color in the Chesnimnus unit along the Idaho border with Oregon. One black sow had a blonde and a brown cub, and two lone blondes.

My question. How is that hunting? Am I missing something? First, why are they using attractants? And why do they hunt the bears in the first place? Do they eat them? Does it thin the herd so bears don't starve like deer?
I can eat a deer and thin the population but I just didn't get the bear hunting on this show. It looks pointless and unsporting (if you can have such a thing killing animals.)
Is baiting for deer legal in GA? I know it is in quite a few states, especially in the south. How is hunting deer or hogs over bait any different than hunting bear? Have you ever tried hunting bear in the north woods? My only baited hunt was in Maine about 20 years ago. Spot and stalk was out of the question. Once you entered the wood most places you could only see 50-75 yards or less. You may not agree with it and that is fine but as long as it is a legal hunting method and hunters are ethical, baiting is a useful hunting method in many areas. .

I was watching a show on one of the hunting/outdoor channels "Savage Outdoors." From Savage Arms. I like Accutrigger but I don't understand something. Sportsman Channel.
They were in Canada somewhere an there were about five or six of them. Briefly, they had set up barrels in the woods that appeared to have food in them, some kind of a attractant (illegal in my state from what I can read, Georgia.) Anyway, they waited for the bears to come eat and then two women shot some bears with a bow and later another guy with a Savage rifle.

I know that sounds like trolling. Sorry. I was genuinely puzzled. Yes, you do seem like a TROLL. Just like in your other posts.

I dont really care for bear meat, but I do hunt them spot and stock only because they are a predator and they are really hard on calves, fawns. Where I live we have way to many predators.
