I will admit to, in years past, having a vehicle with a rubberized front bumper.

It was possible to get some carts above 35mph and headed towards one of those concrete reinforced light post!

Ha! been awhile since I thought about shopping cart drag racing as a teen.

Our jigaboos all use those motorized carts that Walmart provides from them. It's a hoot to see some 475 pound jigaboo woman, with 3 kids hanging on, going down the aisle.

You're right, it's not.

I've seen a few stores that have the equivalent of an "invisible dog fence" buried all around the parking lot perimeter. Try to push a cart past the buried line, and all the wheels lock up. Installing it probably saves them thousands of dollars a month versus lost (stolen) carts. Cheaper are the long rods mounted vertically on the carts so they won't fit out of the door. You can use them inside the store, but not get them out. The irksome part is that you have to carry everything to the car by hand after you check out - which may hurt sales.

Aldi's stores all carts have a lock and short piece of chain that connect them in the corral....you put a quarter in the lock to get a cart....return it to the corral put the end of the chain in the slot you get your quarter back....its very rare to find a cart in the parking lot....carts are not all banged up and they go straight when you push them....little to no chance you vechicals are going to get banged up in the parking lot....

As far as damage from a parking lot, it is something the store must weigh. Employees to gather or carts to be damaged?

The store has to go down there and get them with a pick up truck.

Actually, I used to fetch them. In California, there is a bounty on returned carts. They cost the store roughly $300.00 each, and they pay $3-$10 bucks a piece to get them returned. It's a way to make ends meet as a student in college. Having a full sized pickup and being observant to where they tend co collect, could turn a nice profit in a few hours of cruising around.

Some hellions pushed a batch of walmart carts down into a stormwater detention basin beside our local Chinee buffet. Pretty funny to see all them carts tits up down in that giant bomb crater.

But no where near as funny as the two ten speed bikes that got pushed off the bluff one time. Them mormon boys were sure surprised. Kids are ass holes.
