160 rds of .375
Good base of brass for future reloading.
I paid for 110 rds
Slumlord paid for 50 rds

7 boxes same lot#
1 odd ball lot# we split 10/10

Between slumlords 1000 and 6 deer rifles and the 5 I have.
This factory ammo should last both of us for awhile I would venture to say. crazy grin

Dude if ya got guns that need a refinish job and ain't collector valuable to the extreme.
Go for it man.
It's relatively easy and fun to do.

Dunno really.
Lots of options when that time comes.
Other thread I had lots of guys gave me alot of info on bullets sources and types.

I'm just glad to have ammo for awhile and the .010 wall thickness Winchester brass for future use.

Yummy!! Cast would work great. Powder coat them and they are very flexible in the barrel. Original speeds very attainable

Yes.
2 Saturdays ago
A retired CW4 helicoptor pilot who lives here in Clarksville put the one I bought on armslist for 595.
I jumped on it within 5 mins of it getting posted.
He said another person contacted him just in front of me but was dragging his feet replying.
Talked to him that night after sending 2 emails I will take it
Next morning at 9am it was mine
He had 3 of em!!!!
He kept the lnib one.
Sold other to slumlord for 550 monday when I told him I had a buyer for it the morning I bought mine.

Unobtanium rifles that come up for sale have to be jumped on fast.
He didnt want outrageous prices for either one.

Also made a good local connection for guns in the network around town.

I recommend Barnes Originals 255gr or cast 275gr gas checks

A nice 8 pt at the minimum with about a 16 to 18 inch inside spread or better.
Lined up in the sights opening weekend of rifle this november.

That's what I need for it. grin

about the time i got my 375 marlin, i was scrounging all over for brass and loaded ammo.
i found four or five boxes of that same winchester ammo for about 55bucks a box. I bought all of them.
still have it, cause i managed to get brass from various places, then I think i got some in the stash from jamison and others.
mostly i have been content to fire a 247 grain cast that i bought the mould originally for a 375H&H but works good for this.
when that bullet hits something, it just goes thunk.
i always liked the 38.55, and this is one with some steroids.
there is a brian pierce piece out there using 1680 powder and i think the 220gr. running somewhere around 2300 to 2400fps. I keep meaning to load some up.
i have loaded that barnes 250grain in 38.55 for a winchester legendary plainsman 38.55. another guy and myself were wacking clay pigeons set up at around 100yards with it. We both nailed them pretty handily. I think you are going to like that rifle.

i got mine at a auction. Wasn't much interest in it i think due to the scarcity of ammo. I think i got it just from memory at about 350bucks. Out of curiousity as much as anything, i did put a little scope on it. Just love the caliber and rifle.

one thing i would say to do if you decide to buy hawk bullets, read their website. They make them in various thickness jackets and there are some reloading instructions. Without checking, it seems from memory to use them about like you would lead bullets and not to hotrod them.
one of the other interesting things to me is they are .375 diameter bore. whereas a 38.55 can be up to .379.
I have a breakdown winchester lever turn of the century in 38.55 sitting around a kit to measure bore which i haven't got around to doing yet.
but i suspect it isn't .375.

i don't know if hornady is still making that 220grain, but i did manage to get a number of boxes of them. I seem to remember reading they were specifically made for the .375.

I've got to keep my eye out for one. I've had a couple in years past but let them get away. Nice caliber. I like the bigger bullets.
