My strain traces to Glencoe, was carried out of the Massacre as a baby, parents slaughtered.

Mothers side primarily Scots as well

The sound of the pipes ‘grabs’ immediately , it’s hard to explain except to someone similarly affected....

Reality would be a smallpox infected child with a halo of blighted potato vines.

You need to understand that most people were illiterate. Shield devices, family crests, coats of arms, livery talberts (kings colors) were all visual means of identification. Taverns, inns, lodging houses, shops, all identified by pictograms.
We have a local tavern next here, that shows a headless woman in a full blue and white dress. It might go by many names, due to the signage. "The perfect woman" "the silent woman"," the blue dress", "the headless woman ", "the ex-wife", or even "she"ll never know".
But when everyone in battle is wearing some sort of armor and face cover, the commoners needed to know who's orders to follow, and who to kill. Who was from where, and if they were important or not. Failure could mean your own death, or even your army's failure.
In peace time, they still needed to know where to shop, and drink.

Just got my Ancestry.com results back.

79% Irish, predominantly far SW Ireland. The far SW Ireland part would be my dad.

21% Northern England/Midlands. Agrees exactly with where my English Grandad was from.

2% Swedish, most likely Viking incursions into NW England more’n 1,000 years back.

A 2nd cousin who had done it was identified as a 2nd cousin, prob’ly pretty easy to get that part right.

Always been curious of Scottish customs and ways... so my Scottish buddy is telling me about how this family doesn't like this one, and that one doesn't do it for me etc....I said what happens when they get together for a beer in the bar, he says....then there is a fight. Its true too lol.

My dad has told me that we have Campbells in our ancestry. All I have to say is thank god they weren't Buchanan, their tartan pattern is horrendous.

I always figured our coat of arms was a black pig sillouette with a crossed knife & fork underneath it.

And our clan tartan one of them gingham red & white tablecloths.

That’s a good one.

Tells a story, paints a distinctly vivid word picture.

I’m sure yo early Scot kin would chuckle at that, would appreciate the gesture.
