I still have one in the safe. Killed a couple deer with it and 200 grain accubonds.

It was pretty accurate. I doubt I'd hesitate to shoot anything in NA with it... But two or three whitetails is hardly a test on that caliber

I understand that. I killed a couple of WT with the Speer 200 spitzer. Based on those ONLY, they surprised me in that they
did not open up as much as I expected. Actually, I thot they did well on WT at 3100 fps.

ATST, I would NOT hunt bigger game with them. The 200 NP shoot 1"- 1 1/4" at 3120, so for ELK that's more than enuff.

Thanks, I'll prolly check out the a bs and test them on penetration & expansion.

When I had a 8 mag I used the 220 gr Sierra. It sure worked well on bunny rabbits.

In 1978 I was a senior in high school with one required english class and two study halls. So I spent a lot of time in the library reading Field&Stream and Outdoor Life. Different times for sure!

I read and believed all the new cartridge propaganda when the big 8 came out. When Remington announced the Classic in 1998, I splurged and bought the first one I found. Used it on that first elk, then took it to Namibia on my first trip over there. Used a 220 Barnes X on my first ever African animal, a 40" gemsbock bull!

So I have a sentimental soft spot for the 8 mag!

I've simply always procured that which piqued curiousity and extrapolated same to the larder...if only to the chagrin of Window Lickers everywhere. Congratulations?!?

8mm "Enthusiasts",are easily amongst THE Dumbest Of Fhuqks.

Rem 700, 8mm Mag.... I found one working at the range one time. customer left it behind. Wouldn't have killed me if they never came back for it, but they eventually did. That's the only one I've ever seen.

Indeed, in the 70s - 80s we didn't have C phones, 'net', puters, i pads, et.al.
Like you, I read EVERYTHING that interested me per guns, cartridges, loading, hunting, shooting etc.
I came here to the 'fire' in 2010. Lo & Behold!! I've had direct interactions with some of those same gun writers and hunters.

CONGRATS on the successful hunts. 40 " hemsbock" -- back then THEY drilled us to call gemsbock = hemsbock
regardless of how pronounced..... DANDY!

Sentimental, Indeed !!!

Yep, got a 700 Classic. I'm a big 8mm fan. In addition to the Mag, I have an 8x57 (700 Classic), two .325 WSMs (Winchester 1885 & Browning BAR) and a custom Remington 8mm-06. I REALLY want to add a 8x68 to the fold.
