Whose shooting a Ruger 77/17 hornet and what kind of accuracy are you getting?
I’m interested in this gun, but have had more than enough accuracy issues with Ruger long guns.
Appreciate hearing of your experience.

Have your ruger accuracy issues been with rifles made in the last 10 years?

No, they were rifles made 10+ years ago. They include four number 1s, several 22rf, and a 22H.

You won't find accuracy issues with the 77/17 Hornet. I haven't shot groups on paper since mine was new, but I've kilt prairie dogs to 400 yards with mine

May do that some day.
Pretty busy, moved here 9 months ago and still getting house in order.
Thanks for offer.
Looks like that gun treats you well.
Do you hunt coyotes with it, or just have it with you in case they show up.

I've shot about a dozen with it. Some called in, and some over a dead horse bait at just under 200 yards. One coyote while feeding steers, right at 400 yards. Never heard the bullet smack him, and he took off at the shot. Was kinda surprised when he keeled over after a 50 yard run.....

Mine bulges brass in the head area with factory loads but still shoots great. The .17 Hornet kills predators/varmints with extreme efficiency, IMO... Barrels and ammo for it are cheap so I really haven't lost any sleep over the Ruger chambering fugg up.

I shoot strictly factory stuff in this rifle since new so not really a big deal at this time. However, I've got a Kimber 82 that I'm about to re barreled to .17 hornet with a #1 Pac-Nor and I'd really like to use the once fired brass.

The rifle was sent back to Ruger and returned with a note saying the bulge was within SAAMI spec. Ok great, so what about when I reload this brass a few times and start getting casehead separations? Are case head separations included in SAAMI standards?

You get where I'm going with this. Because I love the round and barrels are cheap I've never really pushed Ruger much for a fix, I'll just keep shooting factory loads in the Ruger and when I get the Kimber 82 done, I'll run it hard using the once fired brass and see what's what.

Let me just say this, having killed well over 100 (probably more like 200) coyotes with that rifle and the 25gr load alone, I'm confident saying its a fur taker to 300yds if you have some trigger control.....

Varmints.....? Well lets just say, that rifle/cartridge combo will shame any HMR or WSM at any distance!

I really like the Ruger platform and the .17 hornet is a "peach", enough so, as to not really get worked up about any of the Ruger shortcomings........

Sooner or later our heritage of hunting is going to be a rich mans sport and the words "Outfitter" and "Hunt Industry" will be synonymous with cancer and A.I.D.S. among blue collar hunters like me and my family! (A.L. Williams - 2010)
