Remington made a pretty decent bullet. Sorry to read that they're history.

There was a looooong write up on "Wadcutter" brass I read a while back. I can't find a link. And don't remember if it was on the Smith-Wesson Forum or somewhere else. But the writer had good photos of the REM cases cut in half and showed the really accurate target loads with the DEWC bullets and Skirted Wadcutters and how carefully those cases were made. My K frames work with either 38 sp or 357 cases. But its easier not to have to get out the heavy scrubbing to work the ring out after the 38 cases. I tend to load more 357 now that I shoot less. Not sure these are the Optimal for target shooters but for plinking they work fine.
I used to only shoot shotguns and rimfires, then I made the mistake of getting a subscription to handloader.......

I would order some 357 brass from Starline and call it good.

I am more comfortable with the Mag. brass. I don't like to gunk up the cylinder and I probably worry too much about scouring the cylinder and lead. It would probably take a lot of rounds to do this but why take a chance?

Starliner 357 mag brass and tight group. Avoid the crud ring and bullet jump in the cylinder. Tight group is still pretty consistent in low densities and less sensitive to position. I typically only run special cases in any thing only if that's all it will hold. Except I used to run a lot of 480 cases in my 475 linebaugh.

Count me in as a +1 for 357 Mag brass and Titegroup or Universal ( cleaner than Unique).
Starline brass is fine. For plinking, I've found that the mixed brass I pick up on Gunbroker.com is sufficient. I just sort it by headstamp.

Starline 357 Mag brass if buying new. I've bought 4000 pcs the last year or so, great stuff. And yes, Universal is an excellent powder.

I would go 357 as well, I have S&W 52 and I load a ton of 38 Special wadcutters. That being said in my 357 pistols I hate having to get rid of the ring in the cylinder when I shoot my already loaded 38 Specials. Much to clean easier with 357 brass loads. May I ask what brand of WC's you prefer. Been shooting Dardas bullets for many years but he retired. Thinking of trying out bullets from Zero. Thanks I've put a ton of Zero 148gr hollow based wad cutters through an "L" frame S&W back when I was shooting PPC competition. We used Federal .38s range brass that the MSP used in their revolvers during their monthly training sessions. Taper crimp die, never had issues with cracking brass. As far as shooting .38s in a .357 chamber, they make an oversized chamber brush specifically intended for cleaning. A couple of swipes per chamber, it takes a minute to clean a revolver .

I had heard the tale that low density loads can detonate too.
I don't think anybody has ever been able to prove or disprove it those actually happen, but I've always preferred smaller cases with the smaller charges just in case.
That might have been worth the time it took you to read it.

Our indoor load was 1.8gr of bullseye or 231 topped with cream of wheat. Rule was that the bullet had to go completely through a cardboard target. Better not have used high density cardboard for a backer.
