The Meopta Meopro I have looks similar to my Zeiss Conquest glass and reticle. Very clear with good resolution but not as nice as Schmidt & Bender or other really nice glass but more than good enough for hunting in poor visibility. My cousin prefers VX3 glass, son in law likes the Meopta better.

I had trouble getting a new 25-06 to shoot and sent the scope to Meopta to rule it out. They tested it thoroughly with a perfect description of method and sent back the less than 1/2” group from their test 22-250 to demonstrate the scope wasn’t the issue. It is sitting on a TC 30-06 that is my back-up elk gun these days.

Meopta is superior to those in every aspect without a doubt.

Why do you say that and are there tests to back it up ?

Just because you have zero experience doesn't mean nobody else does. They're quite popular around here and if you know how to use the search function you can find lots of threads.

Zeiss thought enough of Meopta to have them build their Conquest scopes for years, and their high end FL T spotting scopes for a few years as well. Meopta has been around a long time in Europe, and up until a few years ago was primarily servicing the Czech military. They make great stuff.

I wasn't saying its bad ,just looking for actual tests or those with real life experience that's all

OKie John, I usually will get something .3-5-10, but thinking about it, I keep 'em set on the lowest setting, so why not a 4X?

Shooters like most other human activities seem to follow trends. Meopta is the current one it seems. Previously it was the Conquest from the same factory. I am a lifetime Leupold buyer/user and even I have to admit the Meopta has better optics for the price once your at the Conquest Meopro Meostar level. To some it won't be a huge difference but it is there. Do I need better than Leupold glass? Not really and the known durability and customer service are reassuring inspite of the Loopy haters. I have not used or abused the Conquest or the Meopta like I have the Leupolds so have not decided on durability and fogproof levels yet.

Anyway it sounds like a classic rifle so I would go with steel Tallys or other more period appropriate looking mounts.

I've been happy with my Zeiss Vanguards, also happy they used to be about $400 when I bought them. If you see an opportunity for a used one it may be a god buy.

I say if it’s that critical you’re bordering on the unethical. I don’t see it and I’m not paying several hundred dollars more for a scope for 5 or 10 minutes of supposed extra light. I really think there’s a point where the optics won’t translate to the ability of the human eye. But each to his/her own.

I can see way before and after legal shooting hours with my VX3i’s with my old ass eyes. I have mostly 4.5x14’s, but 4 or 5 of the 3x10’s. Great for the money. Most are mounted with Talley bases and rings.

60 year old eyes and shots out to 250 yards and you're suggesting a 4x, you're kidding right? I am 70 and have 20-20 vision and find a 4x to be inadequate for the situation the OP describes. A Leupold 2-7x or 3-9x would be the scope to have, no experience with Meopta but if it is a current favorite of those in the know it would be another option.

specneeds,

As the "friendly neighborhood cheapskate", I would buy (as I have for ALL of my CF rifles) a 2X to 4X FIXED-POWER scope by REDFIELD or LEOPOLD. = I likely have about a dozen or more 2-4X scopes & have paid no more than 50.oo for any of them at garage & estate sales or at the gun-shows.

TRUTH is that I've owned about 3-4 variable-power scopes in the last 4 decades & TRUSTED NONE of them to stay ZEROED over time.

just my OPINION, tex

I had a little 1.5-4x20 Leupold mounted on a 40X in 308 and changed a few guys' notions at the 300 yard range one afternoon. grin

Sadly my eyesight while quite good for 60 with no glasses required Does not give me lots of confidence at 4x compared to 6-7 at anything over 150 yards. He wears glasses and doesn’t shoot nearly as often as many here. Even the first tiny little buck that I got as a teenager benefitted from extra magnification- I could see the little point that made him legal cranked up to 7 power at about 125 yards. Seeing the 4th point on an elk then immediately pulling the trigger can mean a year of elk burgers vs. tag soup - so I prefer a little more than a 4x is capable of delivering.

I've always said everyone's eyes are different when it comes to shooting with iron sights or what they perceive when looking through a scope. Although I've never come across a situation of a 70 year old with 60 year old eyes.
