Back in the day if a guy would of showed up on opening day of deer season with that thing, I would have been scoffed at.

Jwall, you make a valid point about a cheaper bullet for practice.
With the big bores a lighter and a heavier bullet would be a good idea. They lighter for fun and practice and the heavier for hunting the big stuff.

"Thank you Thank you very much" ! ! ! Yes, in more than 1 way. I AIN'T wasting N Ps practicing, they're too expensive. Hold on, I need to look..................................... sorry for the delay. Not only do I have 200 N P, I have 200 Speer spitzers. "they say" made for Elk hunting. ? ? I have bulk packed Remington 180 8mm PSPCL that I bought from Midway. So..... ALSO, the LIGHTER bullet decreases recoil. Seriously, this thread has stirred up my sediment of 'memory'. I haven't thot of those 180s in quite a while. I said in another post that I had 180 or 185s. I honestly didn't remember. NO I haven't been shooting/practicing with the 8 lately. I have 7 RM and 300 WM so I'm not delinquent in shooting magnums. Jerry

Well, unless you showed them a 'bullet' - (cartridge) you could just say it's a 30-06. How many would have known? I know guys who don't know WHAT a 6.5X55 is or a Swede for that matter, let alone a 8mm RM. Jerry

"Back in the day", there was a 220 grain Hornady also. They discontinued it a few years ago.
Steve Hornady probably needed to buy some more decals to put on his guns!
When I used my Eight, I pretty well stuck with the 220 Barnes, Sierras and the Hornadys for practice. I think I experimented with Swifts also but never hunted with them.
Burned a lot of H4831 playing around with that gun. Now, I would probably start and finish with H1000 and a 200 grain TSX.
Winchester rifles and Swarovski scopes.

That would be a deer/antelope/sheep bullet IMO.
I wonder if that is a Sierra bullet?

Bought a classic when it came out. Worst kickin gun I ever owned. Had a brake put on it. Killed an elk. Loudest gun I owned. Rebarreled to 300 rum. Killed an elk waaayyy out there. Don't hunt there anymore. Rebarreled to 7 rm. Love it now.... End of story.

I had forgotten about that Hornady 8mm bullet. I wish I had tried those. I ‘think’ they would have been a decent bullet. ATST they were not a Nosler, Swift, etc. My preference for a N P is because you can drive it fast and be confident it won’t explode. Thnx Jerry

About ten years ago I passed on a nice one that I just couldn't invent a need for. Now I look at that like passing on that high maintenance girl that your didn't have a need for. Maybe I'd have liked that rifle anyway.

They have plenty of knock down power for antelope.
I watched a friend with a 8mm mag shoot two with one shot. Oooopsie.

Kicking this back to the curb one more time. Any of you fellows have experience with Remington factory ammo in the 8mm Rem Mag????
