Hi All, Just picked up a nice Husqvarna 458 in .243 Winchester. The gun appears to be in great shape. Bore scope shows the bore and throat to be excellent. Bolt cycles nice and smooth. And the Mannlicher style stock has minimal user marks for a gun of this age. Nice that it came with scope bases, too, so I don’t have to chase down a set, myself. Hope it shoots as good as it looks. It is my understanding that the 458 was built on a Husqvarna's 1600 HVA action, and were made from 1959 to 1970. Serial number on this one is 236XXX, which a little bit of googling shows to be a second half of 1959 manufacture. However, the trigger is very heavy, and I read on the internet that it is not all that adjustable. The only after-market trigger I can find for a Husky 1600 HVA action is a Huber Concepts trigger, and I am not sure if it will fit a 458. https://huberconcepts.com/product/husqvarna-hva-trigger/Anyone got any experience with Huber triggers in general? What about fitting a Huber to a Husky 458? ( I originally posted this gun as a Husqvarna 456. But sixfive informed me in a post below that, because it has a Monte Carlo stock, it is a Husqvarna 458. I went through and changed all references from 456 to 458)

Call Brownells and see if they can help.
The very heavy, but simple trigger on my Husky FN was improved a good bit by replacing the spring with one for a Ruger 77/22. Still kinda heavy but usable.
Nice snag!
What fresh Hell is this?

shinbone,
Awesome looking rifle. I am a sucker for those fullstocked Husqvarnas. Outstanding caliber too. Looks to be in fantastic shape. Have you found any ammo it prefers specifically yet?
I think you may actually have a model 458. The model 458 had a Monte Carlo cheek piece and the 456 was straight combed with a small side cheek piece. Have you inspected the trigger yet? Some 458 model actually had a Timney type trigger installed on them rather than the Mauser pivot type trigger. If it is the Mauser type trigger assembly, perhaps a rework from a gunsmith would do the trick? I have not tried a Huber personally so I can not speak for them.
Regards, sixfive

The Timney featherweight for the Mauser 98 with a safety will fit. You would just remove all the stock safety parts and rely on the trigger safety. I ended up hybridizing mine by replacing the shroud and safety with those of an FN M98 and using a timney without a safety.
Timney made some triggers for huskies that use the original safety parts. They're labeled tradewinds, and quite rare and expensive

Gun shop had it mislabeled as a 456. But, as sixfive noted above, it has a Monte Carlo stock, and so it is a 458 model. It mounts really nice. Can't wait to get out and shoot it. Close-up of the trigger face:

I have a 458 in 243 also. It has the original trigger that, in my rifle, is fine. In a Husqvarna 1640 30/06 rifle I own, I replaced the original trigger, that really sucked, with a Huber trigger and it worked great. Except for the trigger guards being different, I can't see any difference at all in the two actions. I wouldn't hesitate to replace the trigger on my Husqvarna 458 with a Huber.

I wonder why a previous owner replaced the buttplate?

OLSKOOLl - beautiful Husky's, there.
"I wonder why a previous owner replaced the buttplate?"
If you are referring to my 458, that is a good question, especially since a .243Win isn't a hard kicker to warrant swapping in a rubber butt pad.

Anyone have an idea of the worth of a S&W 243 win on top of the barrel and on the side says Mod E Sweden?

Anyone have an idea of the worth of a S&W 243 win on top of the barrel and on the side says Mod E Sweden? Which action does it have? During the time that S&W was importing Husqvarnas the actions changed from the HVA to the pushfeed, but the model designations, A thru E, remained the same. Value depends on who is buying it. Collectors want condition and original/cataloged specs. Hunters usually look at price first, condition second. Ds had classic style stock combs, while Es had monte carlo style combs. If it is original, no extra holes or recoil pad, and has condition, I'd say start at $500 and see where it goes from there.

Interesting that the serial number is on the barrel. In Europe, Scandinavia, over there... the barrel is the controlled item, hence the serial number on the barrel. Here, the action is the controlled item, hence the serial number on the action.
