I think the .303 should be reserved exclusively for Canajans for use north of the border..... .308 Win Lite.

I use the 250 Savage because I like it. That's all the reason I need. Acknowledging the fact that the 6.5 Creedmoor is a better mousetrap in several ways doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the 250 one little bit. The inability of some to separate emotional attachment from logic in these conversations is what I find interesting. I agree 100 percent. When contemplating a new cartridge I don't sit down and weigh its ballistic performance against other rounds. If I want it and like it I go get it. And I have a nice little Ruger Ultralight in .250 Savage that I still take out from time to time.

Pretty as the RSIs are, I think the ULs are more practical field pieces. 18.5" is just a bit short and noisy for me. Had a .308 tanger for a bit in the 80s and foolishly sold it. Story of my life.
What fresh Hell is this?

Just received my issue of Handloader this AM. Great articles by great writers. The Modern 7x57 by JB is exhaustive and complete (as always). Lot of work and time went into that one. I no longer have a 7x57, having traded my CZ full stock, but enjoyed the article. John, your Serengeti Montana 7x57 is a real fine rifle. That action seems about ideal for a mid length round. BTW, my CZ was a rare one, never have seen one just like it. It has the butter knife bolt handle, a gray metal finish and nice wood, looks like Circassian Walnut. It now has a Timney trigger. If you guys can give me any info,, would appreciate it. DF

If it gets to be too much, give up your 7x57 and use a 303. Problem solved. The 303 has a solid reputation with animals from Aiwhas to Zakkegs, and everything in between. Bell killed some of his earliest elephants with the .303 which he was using when he first developed his brain shooting technique. A sporterized Lee Enfield. (Chapter 4 in "Bell of Africa")

That's right.
WRT the 308, it's just a 303 improved. I am sure the Brits were happy to help the Americans "catch up". The rim was nothing, but the only way to improve the 303 was to increase the operating pressure. 😆
Not really sure that was an improvement....
A toast, my dears, to James Paris Lee (a Scot, but we all have a cross to bear), and Peter Paul Mauser, designer and one half of the Bavarian singing duo Peter Paul and Harry.
P.S. Sitting here, eating Brie and krakurs, sipping on a Chardonnay. Wondering what my poor 7mm cousins are doing. I am embarrassed to say moose roast again tonight. Killed (according to my Leupold range finder) at 211 yd. The murderer? A 200 gr .313 bullet, fired from a No4 Mk1 Long Branch.
