I just brought home my 4 inch SP 101 in 327 from the gunsmith.
The action is now comparable to my S & W 657MG. Not equal, but comparable.. The Ruger measures 2lb SA and 6lb DA with barely perceptible (to me) stacking the last 1/8 inch before she fires.
I can not discern any difference in SA pull between the two guns, the Smith may be slightly lighter in DA mode and the Smith has no stacking.
Yes, I am very pleased with the Ruger.
Once again, a shout out to Mid Star firearms.

did you buy it used or new? Did they have it in stock or order it for you? I didn't realize they came in the 4" SP101. I've got a 22 and a 357 mag. I like them.

Marlin,
I bought it new, a couple years ago when they first came out in four inch. Mid Star got it in for me. Adjustable rear sight, fiber optic front.
There are several now listed on Gunbroker for less than $600. I bought a DeSantis thumb break holster for the two inch LCR. The SP 101 also rides well in it, but the sight tends to hang up at draw.

Dang... 6 lb. double action? You get reliable primer strikes with that?

If I do not, I will be the first to tell about it.

What do you exactly mean by "tune"?? All my Rugers seem to be already "tuned".

Definition.....Tune a Ruger: honing and smoothing of action parts and adjusting of springs so that trigger pull and feel more closely resembles that of a Smith and Wesson instead of resembling a Taurus.
Next trip to the LGS, I am going to see what they can do with this Taurus Ti Tracker in 41.

I promised to report any failure to fire.
Out of thirty one rounds 120 gr flat point {Accurate mold} over 12.3 gr H110 and a CCI 500 primer, two did not fire, and showed light primer strikes.
One of those did fire when placed into the LCR, One did not, though the bullet pushed about .010 " past a heavy crimp. I lost the primer into the Lee press upon resizing and was not able to examine it.
It looks like she is going back to the 'smith for a slightly heavier spring.

It says Titanium on the periodic table. It is between Scandium and Vanadium, and just above Zirconium.

Hammer springs should not be reduced. Ignition suffers and the first thing to happen is a loss of accuracy. Ruger is not known for good springs so I buy Wolff over power at 26# for my single actions. I used to buy Ruger springs by the dozen and when shooting IHMSA as soon as I started to miss, I changed the spring. I like SA's for hunting, Ruger and BFR. I get the triggers to 1-1/2# and one BFR is 19 oz. I understand about DA and the desire to get a lighter pull but I just cock the hammer anyway. My SRH has started to not shoot as good so I need to order springs again.

I have seen exactly one smooooth out-of-the-box Ruger. Well, maybe just smooth. After springs and a little of my polishing (no gunsmith) it seemed really good. Then I compared it to my Python. Well, it was ok. Then a M64, and a couple M10's. Still not equal. If you think them Rugers are refined, stay away from Colt and Smith.

This guy has done a superb job on several Ruger SAs for me. I will take the SP back to him and have a talk about what spring they put in, and what I need.

It looks like she is going back to the 'smith for a slightly heavier spring. Local smith tuned a Security Six for me years ago, trigger came out very smooth and light. Just one little problem, you guessed it, had an occasional failure to fire with CCI primers; he'd removed one too many coils from the hammer spring. Stock spring fixed it right up and it still had a nice trigger. Should have kept it.

Just back in from the gunsmith. While I waited, he swapped out a (IIRC) 10.2 lb spring for a 12 lb and test fired one cylinder of my handloads through the gun. "Smith did not like my loads much, thought they were a bit warmish. 120 gr cast over 12.3 gr H110.
I just put thirty more rounds through it with no malfunctions. Yes, the trigger is a little stiffer now, but acceptable
