Was think of useing a mildot for long range plinking at steel and various improvised targets on my .22 long rifle . Using the dots for aiming points and wind holds . Scope is a Leupy 3.5×10 . Anybody done this ? Thoughts and opinions?

Many have done it. Many have liked it.

By using the mil-points for range calculation of an object of a known height, determining the hold-over points and windage adjustment are exactly what that reticle is for.
Everything on the reticle has a purpose dots, lines and spaces...

I have a Bushnell Trophy 3-9 mil dot on a .22 and really like the mil dot. The dots help as a reference for hold over and wind. The reticle is fairly fine so it doesn't cover small targets.

The 1" Reupold 3.5-10x is rather trite in erector travel. The MilScale is SFP and the MOA turrets, copiously frost The Schit Sandwich...thus there being NOTHING redeeming in the parcel.

Hint...…………………...
