That one looks good Woody!
The 405 Magma flat nose BB and 20 grains of Trail Boss load that I have been using in the 45-90 is absolute HELL on rocks and beer cans and such.
They will really split a rock when I time it just right and the bullet hits sideways.
I am not good at my job, but I have never let that stop me.
I am MAGA.

I load them over Varget for my Marlin Guide Gun. Have used them for probably 25 years or so. Killed a lot of deer with them...very effective. Very accurate too. I think Speer May have hardened them up a bit for us hot rodders...something made me think that, not sure what...old age, you know.

Has any one used the Speer 400gr. FP bullets in the 45-70? What kind of performance are you getting with it (accuracy and velocity). How has it preformed on game? Don't know about the Speer, but I do know that the Cast Performance 405 GC and H322 will shoot through about 5ft of coastal brown bear and keep truckin'.

I can only speak for one good sized black bear in the early 70's. Ruger #1 with the 400 Speer and a case load of RL-7 (2100 fps). Bang flop no recovered bullet.

I'll have to get some, they look affordable from midwayUSA. I like that, a good bullet at a good price.

I bought Speer, Winchester and Remington 400 grainers, there about, in the late 70's for my Siamese Mauser. I also got busy casting 400 grain Lyman bullets. I think I may have tested 30 - 40 jacketed bullets and switched to cast bullets ever since. I've played with 250 grain plinking bullets, to 500 grain stump busters and never found any use for jacked bullets. Still have the boxes of jacketed bullets I bought in the 70s.

I’m the wrong guy to ask about elk, but if f I were taking my Guide Gun after elk I wouldn’t hesitate to use them.
