Gentlemen, Time to poll the membership. I would like to see a new forum added to the Fire. One dedicated solely to the great 98. We might actually need two. One for militaries and one for commercial / customs. Other ideas, or suggestions to refine?
Mauser Central used to be pretty good - RIP Mauser Central...

Certain years of Sako rifles would certainly qualify. I was wanting to be Mauser specific on this one, however the membership and Rick Bin would have to decide. I've run it by Rick. He said go for it, so let's see how it goes.

Sako was picking up 98K,s and customizing em after WW2 to get back in the game. Before and during their FN action time.
Lots of em were sold in American Base PX,s in europe.
This rifle sure as fugg didnt look like this when I got it out of a pawn shop and they didn't realize what it was.
Did alot of work on this rifle . Shoots 20 bucks a box ppu 196gr sp sub moa now.....
Got my eyes on another with a 1918 Erfurt action with a .308 barrel. Let it sit in the pawn shop it is at for awhile longer. Need ta check its headspace. Really nice custom build Kinda looks like a older rem 700 with black fore end cap and deep black blue finish with a real nice black walnut stock, 2 position low buehler safety.
I just dont know if I need another mauser or another caliber.
Crazy talk...
So yes!!! We need a Mauser forum!!! It will push me over the edge and buy this one I got my eye on.
No comments about my sneakers please. Heard em before
I bought one from a pawn shop years ago. Dark finish on the stock.... Then I redid the stock.... Awesome.... Did some checkering and slow rusty bluing in the past. Can't beat the 98...

Let's not hijack the mauser proposal thread slumlord. Who,s 6.5x55 1901 carl gustaf project is sitting on my work area right now. I will go to midsouth and get a ramline stock for it and say your fajen stock cracked in the grip and couldn't be saved or safe to shoot!!!
We need a mauser forum!!!
If for any other reason someone will eventually post up a pic of one sporting a plastic stock and make all our heads spin and green puke throwing up.

Ludwig Loewe was a Jewish owned company that made a lot of Mausers!!!

Some people spend some serious benjamins on mauser builds.
Mauser thread on hunting rifle forum. No one seemed to be snobs about their rifles.
That thread had some really nice rifles on it for sure.
Mauser forum would be pretty cool. Probably wont be a huge volume forum. But be a good source for info to reference to once it is gets up and running after awhile.

And every one that they made are pre 99 (antique) and no 4473 is required. To your door.

I vote yes - IF - it is like the old Mauser Central forum...

No, not exactly. While the design predates '99 the production years don't. You still need a ffl unless both persons are in the same state. That also includes Swedes and any other earlier models that were produced after the cutoff date for antiques Now a 1888 Mauser.... True, no ffl needed..

Nope, if it was made before Jan 1, 1899, there is no federal restriction since it is considered an antique. All Mausers made by Loewe were made until 1896, after which the company was changed to DWM. So all that are stamped "Ludwig Loewe" are antiques as per federal law.

probably damn few around here that remember that place
It was a pretty decent forum back in the late 90's early 2000's. In my opinion, there are Mausers, and then there is everything else that can be manufactured cheaper.

yes on the mausers, keep the Savage 99 and Sako too is needed. i would prefer a Ruger #1 forum too ,that single shot forum is starting to get off beat stuff on it to say it nicely " plenty cheap stuff " .
now shotguns is a whole new thing ? Perazzi`s and some others certainly would have to be there own forum too ? not with duck guns .
I like the idea of a Mauser forum. Both military and commercial. I can see that getting more traction than a Savage 99 forum, even though I am a fan of those as well. Les

Correct, if it was manufactured 1898, or before. Tons of 98's and 96's were produced after 1898 so they would still need to go ffl. You'd have to be able to verify production date. We're speaking of Mauser in general. If the Loewe's can be documented as not being produced after January 1, 1899 then the statement holds true.

Don't be the darkness.
America will perish while those who should be standing guard are satisfying their lusts.
Seen a 1891 Argentine mauser carbine 7.65 x53 yesterday at a shop in Ashland city on the way to the range to go shoot my AK.
bubbafied custom job. 17 or 18 inch barrel Nice piece of black walnut for stock. Definatley needed recontouring and refinish. But had alot of bedding around the action to make it stable. All the markings were intact. No pitted metal. Thought the built in bolt release half mooned into the rear bridge was cool. Never seen one like that. Internal straight 5rd mag. Kinda thought graphite black cerracoat all metal Had a flip up sliding sight needed to be tensioned up. Triangle post front sight. Missing the screw on ear guard for front sight. Bore was strong, clean and crisp. 175 bucks.... Thinking I can offer 150 to 175 otd
Kinda imagined it as a project gun. Ammo at SGammo under 20 a box.
Did some web research on accuracy. 3 to 6 inch groups in carbine,s
Kinda a big negative
Was kinda imaging it as a project along Remington model 7 lines.
I dunno Still contemplating it Kinda unique to have. But reveiws on accuracy leave alot to be desired.
Works for me. Maybe simply a military rifle forum.
I think we already have that, but it focuses on semi-auto military rifles. A bolt action military rifle forum would include all the various Mauser military rifles, Enfields, Krag–Jørgensens, Springfield 03, etc., etc..
It's too bad some IDIOTS tried to hijack the thread. Oh well, such is life on the internet.
To answer the OP's question, hell yes, I'm all in favor of a strictly Mauser forum. My favorite form of rifle. Paul B.

I'm a Mauser grabber, but I think that we've got enough Mauser "action" just in the discussion boards we have. Putting it in the Campfire gives broad cover, or in customs, so people who wouldn't go straight to a Mauser list get a glimpse of greatness once in a while.
Up hills slow, Down hills fast Tonnage first and Safety last.
An M98 in 7x57. I never heard of it. Too bad that jewel got bubba'ed.
I guess that depends on if your interest is original Mausers or Brit/Mausers. I was made what I thought was a pretty substantial offer from a fellow that called himself "a collector of English Mausers". I declined his offer at that time.
How do you put a value on such when there just aren't any to compare to ?
It's a lovely rifle to stroll in the timber with , I can attest to that.

Good luck with that, I tried to create a Cabin/Offgrid living type thread and was told if I generated enough interest that he would hook us up. I did and he didn't.

Boy am I slow..... I went looking for my post in the Hunters Campfire..... It finally dawned over me that it was in the new forum. Many thanks to Rick Bin for providing this for us.

All things mauser seems like a cool place to hang out as the good ole USA got her butt sewed off by paul mauser for copying the ole 98 with our 1903 springfield and the winchester 54 was nuttin but a 98 mauser winchester 70 and ruger 77 shows mauser 98 in the bloodline and the list just goes on and on so were 121 years up the road from the start and i still dont believe there has been a stronger bolt action built since its inception, and the 7x57 & 8x57and 6.5x55 such cool cartridges these mausers came chambered in so lets get on with the mauser forum as Im in.
broken bones broken heart stripped down an torn apart a lil rust but Im still runnin countin miles countin tears twisted roads and shiftin gears year after year its all or nothin Im not home and Im not lost just holdin on 2 what I got...God and Guns
i thought i was having a senior moment whilst scrolling the Forum list. as i scrolled to the Savage collectors forum i caught sight of Mauser and military rifles! been here a long time and thought i must have been missing this all that time. Hot Damn! a Mauser forum! i have had many Mausers ,96's,98's, siamese. if ever a design was a bench mark it is the Mauser.
