It's complicated....

growing up and having a house walking distance from the main entrance to the yavapai tribal grounds, i always heard refered to as apache.
but they are not. i am thinking without checking the same strain as the hulapai and colorado river indians.

long time ago was wandering up off the north rim of the canyon with my son in law. spotted some indians, southern utes, sitting around a campfire drinking beer. son in law thought i was crazy to stop. spent most of the afternoon talking to them, one had a masters degree. Asked me what i was doing, i said mostly getting my soul back from the city. He said the same thing about himself.
we had/have a lot more in common, then the new arrivals invading the state.
One of the topics was the navajo, that were once raiding ute territory.
One of my crazy drinking buddies all through school at NAU was a yavapai.
Come to think of it, one of my first girlfriends was a laguna indian originally from new mexico.
People get interbred. my half sister was, croat/slavic/mexican/spanish/pima indian. one of her kids looks like an apache, the other a german biermeister, go figure.
