It gets better. Did you look at her badges in the article pic? She's wearing the Combat Medic Badge and the Army Medical Regiment Crest. She was Medical Service Corps and a MEDEVAC pilot. Expert Medic Badge I believe. I had a Bn Commander when I was a young Captain that had been a helicopter pilot in Vietnam but he was originally an Rifle Platoon Leader in Vietnam before that. Been a while, and my brain does get soaked pretty regular...
But, is it common for officers without any infantry background to take command of an infantry division? It happens, but in the active Army they'd at least have a Combat Arms background.

But, is it common for officers without any infantry background to take command of an infantry division? It happens, but in the active Army they'd at least have a Combat Arms background. Unless, of course, it was a woman...

about like two out of the three captains i had in the 1st cav.
thankfully the 1st sergeants and PSNCO & E-9 knew the ropes.
thank god there's not going to be anymore large-scale land wars.
because if there were, the russian bear would hand us our arse, w/o nuclear.
or to set the table differently, the russian bear will save us from the red chi-coms. It would be like every other war where we get beat for a while until dire circumstances force us to get out heads out of our arses. Aviation isn't a CA branch the last I checked. I suppose Armor officers could command Mech Inf and Armor divisions. I had a room mate in OCS that was FA and went on to command a FA Brigade in the Guard.

CA. National Guard infantry command with no experience? Only in our confused politically correct military can this happen. In CA? Mandatory! Maybe she could take a platoon out and do battle with all the homeless encampments.

I guess it did change in 2001 to include Army Aviation in Combat Arms but only Air Cav and Attack Helicopter(?). Still strange to see an Inf Div CG coming from there.

That's the drunk 2lt a couple guys in C co 1/16th ( was in Dco at the time) picked up at the Bad Cannstat spring wine fest in 1987.
They took her to some Gasthaus , ran a train on her all night .
Left her tied up to the bed with a table candle shoved up her twat passed out.
Owner discovered her the next morning.
Hahahaha!!!
Dudes took polaroids of it all and couldn't keep their pieholes shut about it.
They went to Mannhiem.
Glad to see she made General.
