I would second the motion for Petrified Forest and would also include Meteor Crater, a very impressive hole in the ground. Painted Desert at sunset or early in the morning is very beautiful. Full sunlight tends to mute the colors somewhat but still pretty. If taking the northern Arizona route I would look into visiting the Hopi mesas. Dances are scheduled throughout the summer and if you can time it right are well worth a visit. In the Four Corners area a visit to Chaco Canyon and/or Mesa Verde is well worth doing also.

If you have an interest in astronomy and are traveling on US 60 going east toward I- 25 the Very Large Array radio telescope is located west of Socorro, NM.

Go down through 4 Corners from SW CO and travel Eastern AZ.

Tombstone is a must if you like old west history.

It's a beautiful state. I don't know what your particular interests are but there are mountains, desert, Grand Canyon, painted desert, forests. You'll really have to decide what interests the two of you have and go from there.

Please remember Greg for me, too.

I would suggest not crossing the border.

Tombstone is a great place. They commercialized it a bit, but it's still small and a good taste of the old west. Don't pass up a chance to play tourist there. wink

Also the meteor crater just down the road from the PF.

Grand Canyon too.

Just a few streets over from the main part there’s a house that Wyatt Earp actually lived in while there. It’s still in use today!

I hope you and your daughter have a great trip and not only enjoy the quality time spent together making memories but I hope your trip is safe and you get to see some beautiful sites along the way.

I think it’s a beautiful gesture to go visit your friend and no better reason could exist for undertaking such a long road trip. Say hello to Crossfire for me and until we meet again tell him he’s missed by many.

I do hope you’ll share your adventures with those of us that’ll have to live vicariously through you.

God bless you and keep your safe.

ETA....I’m sure he’ll be delighted to see his “Peaches”.

Organ pipe cactus national monument, is a beautiful scenic area next to the border south of Gila Bend, AZ.

I love western road trips and wish you a great vacation.

Not sure of your route down here, but there is a lot to see. Probably too much to see with only a month.

I would recommend Zion National Park. My second best favorite behind Glacier National Park.

Of course there is the Grand Canyon. I much prefer the North Rim to the South Rim.

While in AZ, Flagstaff is kinda cool. Tombstone is fun to kick around. Go see Kartchner Caverns north of Tombstone. You gotta get tickets before hand - you can get them online. It's worthy. If you like airplanes and history, the Pima Air Museum in Tucson is nice. In Tucson, go to the Arizona Desert Sonoran Mueseum - its more of a wildlife zoo but for the animals of the Southwest. Sedona is interesting. Go on a Jeep Tour in Sedona. I always like Bisbee which is about a half hour from Sierra Vista. Cool mining town. Lots of breweries. Take a tour of the underground mine there called the Copper Queen (I think that at was the name).

As someone mentioned, Canyon De Chelly is pretty cool.

Bring a good camera on your travels. Travel safe and enjoy the journey.

Have not been on much in years. Had no idea Crossfire passed. May he RIP.
