I had one done on a 700 action .. seemed a good use for a .270. 1-9" 3 L&G super match PacNor. I never could get it to shoot so it went on down the road. I didn't have real good luck with the 6mm Rem AI, either, the only powder I could get accuracy with was Win 760 and I apparently ran into hard powder fouling issues. Eventually sold it .. mistake. Should have kept the action and stock and done something else with it.
Before you think I hate .243/6mm, guess again. One of the most fun rifles I've ever owned was a 6x.284 with a slow twist. It was a terror with 70 grain ballistic tips.
Anyone who thinks there's two sides to everything hasn't met a Mbius strip.
Here be dragons ...

I have a friend that has purchased 3 wood and blued MARK V's in that cartridge in the last 2 years. I think he sold two of them for a nice chunk fo change but held onto the really really nice one. It might make more sense then the 257 bee.

I put together a 240 Wby a few years back. Mauser action , Douglas #1 barrel cut to 23" 1/8 twist.... it loves Berger 115VLD at 3000fps. I haven't used it much as I have been chasing elk the last few years, That is going to change as I am going to concentrate more on open country mule deer and antelope in the future and that is what I built this rifle for. Now we're talkin'! Very nice. That stock looks like the open grip RevMike was looking for.
What fresh Hell is this?

It’d need to be a 7x57 to get the Rev excited.

fubar- what kind of wood is on that jewel? Beautiful, and I too love the open grip. The custom I had was on a Model 700 and I had it set in a Remington synthetic Mountain rifle stock, the one before the stainless synthetics they have now. My friends 240W who had used it for decades with the 95 Partition is a Mark V but he restocked it with a nice piece of walnut but went with a godawful thumbhole style! ha Not my "type" of gal! I have had 25-06s and .257 Weatherbys, 7mm Mags shooting 120gr...same with 6.5/284 & 120s, all were great deer/exotic killers. I think the 240W was just as wicked and just as easy to shoot.

Jim, The wood is Oregon black walnut. When I bought the blank both sides had the same figure. When the blank was turned the one side retained the color and the other side turned out relatively plain.

Curious. They aren't too far from here. I like to stop when I can. Neat old creaky wood store. Not very big considering their sales. As you know, Mossberg to Merkel, they have higher end stuff than you usually see. Cove Creek Outfitters is 3 mile from here. Another internet, high end retailer, I won't darken their door.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

Pappy that is a beauty. The wood looks almost like royal walnut the English/black walnut hybrid. But black walnut varies so much it is probably the juglans nigra.
Just about an ideal/antelope deer rifle.
