Ken Warner was the best editor AMERICAN RIFLEMAN has had, at least in recent decades. I'm not a gun writer, but he bought my first two articles and published both in HANDLOADERS DIGEST in the early to mid-'80s. Pretty critical, but a good editor and a good person.

Yes, he was a good editor and I learned a lot from him. I always enjoyed his letters from his WV mountaintop. I tried calling him a couple of years ago and couldn't connect - now I know why. His entry in Who'd Who in America states he was born in 1928, and he once alluded to be a combat veteran of the Korean War."'Pretty critical" would be an understatement, but that was Ken's way of getting a point across. I learned much from his criticisms.

Sorry to hear that Ken passed. I first met him in 1978 I believe. I wrote a few pieces for Ken but not many. His tastes and mine differed. Even so we got along just fine and he was always cordial when our paths crossed.

I always enjoyed anything he wrote. I have two of his books - Practical Book of Guns and Practical Book of Knives, even though they were both written years ago the advice given in them is still relevant.
Between Ken Warner and Ken Waters there was a lot of knowledge that many folks should read and take heed from.
