My Grandson made E7 about 3 years ago, met a nice young lady at the Senior NCO school, somehow got a transfer to her base and they got married last year. He made E8 a few months ago, and she is up for it soon. I talked to him a couple of days ago and he said he will get one shot at E9 before his 20 is up in four years
His goal all along was to retire as E9 but seems to not care all that much anymore, instead looking forward to his next career.
