Gunzo: Well YOU partially get it - the mass of a Rifle adds to its accuracy - all other things being equal.
Accuracy is WAY more important to me and "many" others than is "handiness"!
Anyone ever attend a bench rest competition (I have!) and the accuracy minded shooters choose to shoot heavy barreled Rifles - NOT 16" barreled sporter weight barrels!
Sheesh.
I have been taking Rifles afield to shoot Varmints with for well over half a century now (60 years now actually!) and heavier Rifles (which most often means longer barrels) will improve your kill ratio and the fun factor.
Sure you can use 16" barreled Rifles and they are handy but a longer heavier barrel will provide more steadiness of aim, more accuracy, more kills and more fun - I know, I done it!
Hold into the wind
