I much prefer thinking of the US as the dominant country in the Americas so maybe I will start referring to it as THE America. And the the people as THE Americans.
The Ohio State be damned! tUSA?

Fellow grad student from Peru got n me a bit about referring to ourselves as Americans because he felt everyone in the western hemisphere were "Americans".
He shut up when I asked him if his country had America for a name or even in its name. No.
End of story.
