Does anyone happen to know what a post-64 Model 70 action weighs without a barrel?
Thanks!
Chet

Yes, factory mag, TG and BM (2 piece) on the classic stainless. Could obviously drop a few (3-4 oz) going to PTG.

I am thinking of putting together a slightly heavier barreled sporter. Trying to decide if I can get the weight and balance I want with a M70, or if I need to go to a 700 clone.

If it helps I have a Model 70 Classic, 280 Remington, Blackburn bottom metal, McMillan Sako Classic - Edge fill, Lilja #5 contour fluted at 24".
With a Leupold 3.5-10x40 in Talley lightweight mounts it weighs 8 lbs. 10 oz.. I find it about perfect. You could certainly shave weight with aluminum bottom metal.

Late to the party. From some tinkering I did a year ago. Sample size of 1 each.
Win LH M70 SA CM: > Receiver 19.7 oz > Bolt 13.9 oz > Factory BM: 7.7 oz > After market Aluminum BM: 2.5 oz
Rem LH M700 SA SS: > Receiver 17.2 oz > Bolt 13.8 oz > Factory BM ??? > HS Gen1 DBM 9.6 oz
Win SA M70 with aluminum BM was not much heavier than a Rem SA 700 with factory BM.
