So, has anybody been using rechargable flashlights in their daypacks or backpack trips?

Bought a Anker rechargeable this winter and am kinda' liking it. Thinking about getting a smaller one for my daypack.

Pros, Cons, Thoughts?

Nitcore NU20 or NU25... you won’t need to recharge it for the average trip.

Haven't heard of them. Wasn't thinking of a headlamp, but I'll have to google it..... My BD headlamp has served me well.

I bought 4 of these last week and am very impressed. I believe they could actually replace the above and are certainly a hell of a back up key chain light:

I've been using a Fenix headlamp and flashlight that use the same batteries. The batteries even have a port in them and can be charged out of the device. I've never needed the spare.

I only day hunt but I have went to carrying a black diamond revo headlamps. Pretty light weight and I can recharge if needed with my Anker.

My concern with Li-ion is cold weather performance. I've worked with enough Li-ion tools is cold weather to know it affects how long the battery charge lasts and how well ithey will recharge.

I’ve been using the Surefire E1L for over a decade. They use single Cr123A batteries. I have three of them— one in my pocket, one in my pack. The third is a backup I’ve never used.

I have a handful of BD headlamps, including one rechargeable. The Nitecore is lighter, and crazy bright.

I guess I don’t see the use in a flashlight, when a headlamp works as one, and as, well, a headlamp too.

The advantage of a flashlight over a headlamp is, it gives your mouth something to do while gutting after dark or cooking dinner...

With a headlamp on, I gotta whistle.

I really like the Zebralight and the Petzl Tactikka. I have the older version of the BD Revolt, and it was only 160ish lumens. The new ones are much brighter.

Since the OP was about flashlights, I use a Nitecore P12 and bring along a spare 18650 battery. This set up gives me a solid 15 days or more.

If I need to go hands free, I use the belt clip on my hat.

Do you like the 350 lumens over the 300? is there that much difference in useable light?

I just looked and I've not actually used the standard Tactikka, mine is the Tactikka+. So I can't give you a direct comparison between the Tactikka with 300 lumens versus the Tactikka+ with 350, but I can tell you that the original BD Revolt with 110 lumens (I just looked it up) is much dimmer than the new 300 lumen Revolt, which seems about the same as the Tactikka+. Of course, the Zebralight with 1092 lumens is much brighter than either, but it throws the light in much more of a flood pattern (despite being the narrow beam model), so the light intensity from the ZL appears to be about the same as the Tactikka+, it just illuminates a wider area.

You'll like the Nitecore. I use theNU20 as I never found I use the red light feature on any headlamp I owned (the NU25 has a red light feature). The NU20 weighs 1.9oz, which is 1.5oz's less than my BD rechargeable headlamp. Same lumens (360) at high setting. Another nice thing about the Nitcore is it has a built-in safety so it can't be accidentally turned on inside a pack. All-in-all, I've not found a better rechargeable headlamp.

I like the red light option in buggy areas.

I just bought a BD Spot headlamp and It's lighter than most with great battery life and excellent lighting features. My only issue with it is the switch being almost flush with the body of the light. Works great in my hand but I can miss it when it's on my melon. Can't imagine using it with gloves.

I'd like to find a lightweight headlamp with good white and red light, light weight, and a dead solid reliable and prominent switch.

Zebralight headlamp serves as my only light source. On an average 5-7 day backpack hunt, I'll bring an extra battery but I never have to change it. This includes hiking in dark, hiking out in dark, and all camp light including reading in the bag....

Great thing about these are that they are all pretty affordable.

I do still carry a flashlight in my shirt pocket or clipped in my collar. The streamlight stylus pro is so small and so useful that it is indispensable for me. Casual slacks and a polo shirt and it tucks right under the bottom button almost invisibly.

Camofire has a 250 lumen headlamp that has your high, medium and low white light but the green light is very bright and has a 40 hour battery run time. Lights up the trail well and is lite weight, 3 AAA batteries and more. Sold also at Blackorvis

$15.99 each so buy like five.......your buddy will want one when you turn on the green light.

Casey, I am still using the little Surefire Titan Ti light. Not rechargeable, but the single CER123 battery lasts for ever. The included lanyard is long enough to hang it over your neck, the light then provides plenty of illumination for walking around, or in your tent.

Haven't tried a rechargeable but I havea streamlight twintask 1l I bought a few years ago. Tough little flashlight.
