Just had to tell my wife not to attempt that. Take the ticket and be good with it.
My wife said she'd have said thank you to the popo for letting her know something on the car needed fixin'.
I must not be a grumpy ol' woman. Grumpy ol' man got treated differently a couple of weeks back. Local deputy pulled me over for no license plate lights. I got a nice "You leave yours in your pocket, I'll leave mine holstered" when I informed him I had a pistol in my pocket after he asked is there anything in the car he needed to know about. After running my info for wants and warrants, he didn't even write the fix it ticket, just told me to address the issue.

Here, you get a "hey sir, do you know the tail light is out on your left side"? If you say NO
"Ok, just giving you a verbal warning to get that fixed within the next few days."
If the same lawdog catches you again, you will get a ticket, however the ticket is dismissed if you go to court and bring reciept of the new bulb or lens.
But...she earned every bit of that.
