Louisiana prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a woman who they say ordered her girlfriend to douse her six-yearmonth-old son in gasoline and burn him to death.

Prosecutors charged Hanna Nicole Barker, 23, in the July 2018 death of her son, Levi Cole Ellerbe, the Daily Mail reported.

Barker claimed that kidnappers knocked on the door of her Natchitoches, Louisiana, home, sprayed her with pepper spray, then stole her son. Barker also said she called the police right away, but it was less than two hours before police found her son’s burned body lying next to some nearby railroad tracks.

Police claim that Barker’s kidnapping story is a fabrication and that she and her girlfriend, Felicia Marie-Nicole Smith, 26, took the child to the tracks where Barker doused the baby in gas and then ordered Smith to light the child on fire.

The child was still alive when police found his burned body, and he was rushed to a local hospital, but Levi soon died from his injuries. Doctors reported that the boy had second- and third-degree burns over 90 percent of his body.

Police arrested Smith four days later and charged her with first-degree murder. Barker was also arrested several days later and hit with the same charges.

Barker reportedly told police that she was in a sexual relationship with Smith but claimed that Smith was more interested in a permanent relationship than she.

Police also say that Barker admitted to ordering Smith to murder Levi.

Barker had already been on probation for a drug charge, and officials say that having Smith live in her home was a violation of her terms.

Smith will next appear before a judge on August 23, and prosecutors are considering the death penalty for her, as well. Barker’s trial is set for January 13, 2020.

Poor little squirt lived for two hours with burns over 90% of his body, lying by some railroad tracks. Very disturbing images come to mind. I find it rather difficult to contrive a punishment commensurate to their depravity.

As long as people are just institutionalized - 3 meals - a room with a bed - toilet - healthcare - plenty of companionship - drugs etc. it's like a raunchy retirement plan for scumbags .
Maybe when this country is fully bankrupt people will realise that these worthless welfare/criminal/murderers have been nothing but a drain on the good people . Maybe there will come a day when ugly disgusting filth like these two will be dragged down the street and served the punishment they deserve .
The system we have in place absolutely isn't working , these two fuglies will be treated to all the stuff previously mentioned at the working peoples expense - that's BS.

to be honest when you're on fire you really don't feel any pain while its happening, at least i didn't.

A student with a father who was locked up explained it like this; one of the hardest things about being incarcerated is being separated from family. A big worry is what might be happening to their kids or to their other young relatives. This explaining the historic hostility to those who hurt children.

That true of mens' prisons, I have no idea how it is or was in womens' institutions.

I'm glad to see that Louisiana still has a death penalty and I sure hope those prosecutors can get it implemented for this sick, depraved killing of a 6 yr. old child who had to lay there in agony for two hours severely burned over 90% of his body. "Sick" and "depraved" isn't an adequate description of this and I'm at a loss for words to come up with something more descriptive.
