I would call them to explain what you are looking to do then send it in with the written instructions of what you are looking to have done as well. A coworker did this for a scope that was on a rifle his dad gave him with a lot of sentimental value to him. They couldn’t fix the scope and sent it back with a letter explaining what the issue was. He was happy to get his back.

GS is one thing, taking advantage of it is another. I still can't figure out why, some think it is all right to send back a 20 year old scope and expect them to fix it for free or send them a newer model for nothing. I know it is Leupold's choice to do so. Individuals also have a choice.

Add on the circumstance, where some go to a gun show and buy up beater scopes and send them in makes me figure more.

Battue,

I understand your sentiments but hope that your comments were not directed at me. I specifically stated I wasn't looking to send in an old scope to get a new one in return, and nowhere did I say I was requesting any service for free.

My scope (FXIII - 6x42) was sent in for repair earlier this year , as it started fogging up this past hunting season. It was only 12-13 years old and had taken some hard knocks but Leupold fixed it free of charge.

Currently have about 15 older Leupolds mounted on guns, have never had to send one back.

Nor me, Battue. My scope has a lifetime warranty where Leupold will repair or REPLACE at their discretion. I was hoping they would replace it. Nothing wrong with that. They instead repaired it to my complete satisfaction.
