"Come, shall we go and kill us venison? And yet it irks me the poor dappled fools, Being native burghers of this desert city, Should in their own confines with forked heads Have their round haunches gored."
That’s pretty cool that at 93 he has the gumption to keep on fishing.......my kind of guy!
Sorta like a carp. They are in the “sucker” fish family. They are our closest native N American fish to the carp family and can live to be over a hundred years old.
RC beat me too it. 🤠

Who buys the buffalo ? And does your Dad still drive ?
Just about everyone buys the buffalo... it's cheaper than the catfish. Yep, he still drives. In fact, Dad and my stepmom are planning a trip to California to see one of her daughters.

So you know how to filet buffalo bone free for frying? I wonder what he charges for the spotted vs the buffalo.
Not sure it can be done. Buffalo have small finger shaped bones. You dont cut-up buffalo, you tear it apart. I think he gets $1.50/lb for the buffalo and all catfish are $2.50/lb.

Choupique?????
No it's not a grinnell (bowfin)

Does he have help,
Nope. He has a skinning table with hooks for hanging the larger fish. It doesn't take over a minute or two at the most to clean any fish.

Why does he keep the fish in water?
Dad catches fish every day and only sell on Thurs/Fri. He cleans the fish and freezes them in water in large pans, then on Thurs morning he dumps the frozen fish in the ice chest and puts water on them to thaw them out. The water also keeps the fish fresh.

I've got a picture in my mind of someone similar to a real-life version of "GrandPa Gustofson" from Grumpy/Grumpier Old Men, only with a thick southern accent.

I can walk on water.......................but I do stagger a bit on alcohol.
I have an old cousin who fillets long rolls of meet from between the y bones and cuts it into frying pieces.
I've never seen or heard of that. Gonna have to look into it. Dad probably wouldn't be interested because he'd have to sell the fish for such a high price that folks wouldn't buy it. Poor folks are use to spitting bones!
