First dead people I saw as a kid was on a two lane highway. Found out later, someone tried to pass a string of cars and didn't make it. They went head on into another string of cars going the opposite direction. What a mess. Cars, people, debris...terrible. People who have to sort out that kind of mess have my respect.

Glad it worked out OK. Stay safe out there.

About ten years ago I was driving my daughter to college. We were stuck behind a couple of girls in a Honda Element. It had one of the blue stickers with the yellow = sign on it. I laughed and said, why did they put a Subaru sticker on their Honda?
My daughter rolled her eyes at me and said, dad, that sticker means gay equal rights.
Me- but why are they on every Subaru I see?
Her- A lot of lesbians and gays like Subaru's. Myself, I'm a Jeep girl....

Don't guess I am either.

The buddy mentioned above drives either a Tundra or a Wrangler. He's had the Wrangler since 2010 or so, and the Tundra since 2013.
I've had the Subaru since February and it's got more off road miles than both of his...

As mentioned, he and a lot of others drive to project an image.

Agreed.

My primary is a paint-peeling, '95 Taco. The image I try to project is I don't give a chit what other people think.

Heck. Guys - Mike even rode in (and named my '90 3500 Chev "Jumper" )- a little problem with worn king pins and tires..

Guaranteed he doesn't care what he rides in.....

I'm always surprised at the number of people who don't use cruise control when they could, and their speed wobbles up and down by 5-10 miles per hour. Which means I have to come out of cruise until I can pass.

My FIL claims he gets better milage if he doesn't use cruise. I suspect this is based on a one-of test in eastern Montana where he lives, and involved strong head and tail winds, and high speed (no speed limit at the time). smile

Just has to go up hills and have brakes. And no breaks.

Behind that rig was an old, grey Subaru, with grey-haired, pony-tailed, wire-rimmed-glasses driver. Then a Blue something sedan, then me in my Ram 3500 with overhead camper.

Grey effer, on coming to a passing lane section, would pull up in the left lane just short of the left rear of the road whale and hang there, preventing us faster drivers from passing.

Third time the Subaru SOB did it, I wasn't having it, and accelerated hard (love that Cummins!), despite a double yellow, but it was a sufficient straightaway with no oncoming. Blue had the same idea and crossed the double yellow on the left just in front of me as I came up, so I went right, into the right lane the road whale was in. We simultaneously blew the doors off that Subaru, Blue slightly ahead of me!

Hard behind the roadwhale I cut that miserable POS off with a pickup length to spare, as Blue cut back in front of me, then into lthe right hand lane in front of the motor home. I had speed up, and passed Blue also, and as I went by he gave me a big grin and thumbs up.

Had we planned it, it couldn't have gone any smoother, Blue and me.

Hell, we weren't even mad. Or I wasn't, anyway.

That old Hippie didn't even give us the courtesy of the finger, probably too busy checking his Depends. Ok- he might have been younger than me....

My wife, who always gives me chit about my driving (then does the same herself, or faster), just looked at me and said "Served him right."

But then, she hates Subaru drivers anyway.

I'm bad... I know it...

I drive a lot, 60k+ business miles annually. Some freeway and lot of country/city roads. The worst places for me are coastal towns and the top of list is a coastal town with a university. Lots of older retired folks that don't give a damn what time they show up mixed up with 19-20 year old late for class students all in the same place at the same time. The farm implements have scaled up in size much faster than the country roads have so that's a problem for farmers and travelers. I give the tractors and combines as much room as I can because I don't see me winning in a collision no matter who has the right of way.
As for speeding, you have to do it over a long drive to make any difference. Bad luck with the lights will take away what 15 over for an hour will gain. I just go with the flow mostly, but that dick that speeds up to keep somebody from passing will burn in hell.....

Agreed on the last sentence. Along with them that pass at 1 mph over what the slower vehicle is doing, because BY GOD they WILL determine how fast you will drive on THEIR road. Even though state law says you can do 10 over posted limit when passing. But then again, I guess them drivers (lot of them just happen to drive subarus) know whats best for everyone. That's why they join unions and vote socialist.

Not to rain on your parade or to call you out in any way, but one must consider consequences of passing on a double yellow.

My Dad came around a corner in his lane on a highway in Southern Utah. Coming at him was two cars - one going in the opposite lane and one in his lane. He tried taking the shoulder to get out of the way and avoid a head on. It cost him his life, and the other drivers that caused all this kept driving.

I have done foolish driving too, so I am not better than anyone else. But his accident has modified how I drive.

Don’t see a lot of Subaru drivers in my part of N. TX.
If you go to Austin, though, you’ll see a lot of big ole bull dykes driving them. And in the DFW you’ll see the metrosexuals man bun types driving them.

What you do see here are a lot of fuggin wetback drivers. They’re usually in a mid 90’s Chevy pickup with a Dallas Cowboys sticker on the tailgate or a 90’s Chevy full sized van that’s loaded to the Gill with other fuggin wetbacks.

And you can always tell it’s a wetback driver cause they always drive at least 5 or 10 mph under the speed limit thinking they won’t get stopped by LEO and they won’t ever pass anyone on the road.

One of these days I’m gonna buy me a big ole one ton diesel dually with big ass pipe bumpers all the way around it so I can drive around and run all of those fuggers off the road. 🤠

That made me think of National lampoons Christmas vacation. When Clark gets the station wagon stuck under the log truck.
